Keep telling yourself that.
As much as the "it is what it is" crowd love to rip on the "complainers" the truth is you sandwiches are even more determined to hold onto this mindset.
Example: did Lautaro have to play the full 90 mins against Udinese? We were 3-0 up at half time.. Would Udinese have mounted a heroic comeback and beaten us 3-4 if we had taken Lautaro off at half time, or even the hour mark? No, but we might've given Lautaro more rest for this match against Sociedad and we could've even started him instead of that absolute fucking waster Sanchez.
Pretty much the same case in the first leg. Points don't lie and Sociedad, not Inter, are the strongest team in this group. And yet, against the strongest team, the group winners, both home and away we played heavily rotated teams
We could've pushed much harder in the final 30 minutes at Benfica too. We tied the game up at 70 mins and the ref eventually gave 9 minutes of stoppage time
and yet we did fuck all because we were satisfied with merely rescuing the draw. Had we won that game, we'd be group winners now.
As others have mentioned, look at the difference between the group winners and the runners up.. it's the elite of the European elite against a bunch of fucking Europa League trash. Winning our group, and being drawn against one of those weaker teams balances out to actually HELP our scudetto chances, and almost guarantees progression to the Quarter Finals - plus that UEFA money.
Sociedad know this. Watch them celebrating. They aren't celebrating winning the group or even progressing to the next stage. They're celebrating an easy quarter finals run.
Disagree if you like but as far as I'm concerned, winning the group would've meant a 90% chance of getting through to the quarters but coming second place means a 50-75% chance at being eliminated at the round of 16. The difference between the two outcomes is colossal.
But nah.. it's all good guys!
I feel this is a good time to remind everyone that Lazio are in 10th place. TENTH fucking place. They have been pathetic all season and have scored a miserable 16 goals in 16 games.
I will also remind everyone that there is a full FIVE days..
FIVE days and 9 hours between the Sociedad match and our match vs Lazio. I mean... do we even really need to rotate?
As thatdude so accurately put it, there's prioritizing the scudetto, and then there's this.
And yet, because our coach is petrified of getting humiliated by his ex again, he has completely jeopardized our European campaign.
There's a balance to every single decision Inzaghi has to make. Who to start, who to rotate, when to sub etc. I get that some of you simply don't like what you perceive to be complaining - regardless how valid the criticism - and that it can be exhausting when people overanaylze every miniscule decision and micro detail. But giving Inzaghi a blanket excuse is not right either.
We should've put much more into this game. The "cost" of winning would've been negligible yet the ramifications for not winning are fucking enormous.
