So, things are not going exactly as expected this season. Our goal was never the scudetto, but the horrible defeat at Tottenham and the hard strugle we'll have until the end of the season with Milan and Lazio for the Champion League spot just underline our squad is lacking in quality.

Just a quick recap:
2009-10: Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League winners
Most usual eleven: JC, Lucio, Samuel, Maicon, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Thiago Motta, Deki, Sneijder, Milito, Eto'o

2010-11: 2nd place in Serie A, Coppa Italia winners, eliminated in the quarter-finals by Schalke in CL
Most usual eleven: JC, Lucio, Chivu, Maicon, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Thiago Motta, Deki, Sneijder, Milito, Eto'o

2011-12: 6th place in Serie A, eliminated in the round of 16 by Napoli in Coppa Italia, eliminated in the round of 16 by Marseille in CL
Most usual eleven: JC, Lucio, Samuel, Nagatomo, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Obi, Alvarez, Sneijder, Milito, Pazzini

2012-13 (so far): 5th place in Serie A (one point behind Milan in 3rd), playing the semi-finals vs Roma in Coppa Italia (down 2-1), on the verge of elimination by Tottenham in EL (down 3-0)
Most usual eleven: Handanovic, Rano, Juan, Nagatomo, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Gargano, Guarin, Alvarez, Cassano, Palacio/Milito

Our current full squad (29 players):
GK:
Handanovic - 28 yrs
Castelazzi - 37 yrs (long term injury - season end)
Carrizo - 28 yrs
Belec - 22 yrs

CB:
Rano - 25 yrs
Juan - 21 yrs
Samuel - 34 yrs (returning from medium term injury)
Chivu - 32 yrs
Silvestre - 28 yrs (medium term injury)

WB:
Zanetti - 39 yrs
Nagatomo - 26 yrs (short term injury)
Pereira - 27 yrs
Jonathan - 27 yrs
Mbaye - 18 yrs

MF:
Cambiasso - 32 yrs
Guarin - 26 yrs
Kovacic - 18 yrs
Kuzmanovic - 25 yrs
Gargano - 28 yrs
Deki - 34 yrs (returning from long term injury)
Obi - 21 yrs (long term injury)
Mudingayi - 31 yrs (long term injury - season end)
Benassi - 18 yrs

WF:
Alvarez - 24 yrs
Schelotto - 23 yrs

FW:
Milito - 33 yrs (long term injury - season end)
Palacio - 31 yrs
Cassano - 30 yrs
Rocchi - 35 yrs

And what can be expected from the next mercato so far, according to the more concrete rumours:

IN
Laxalt (23 yrs WF from Uruguay): around 3m
Campagnaro (32 yrs CB from Napoli): free transfer
Andreolli (26 yrs CB from Chievo): free transfer
Icardi (20 yrs CF from Sampdoria): 15m
Botta (23 yrs AM from Argentina): free transfer
Peruzzi (20 yrs WB from Argentina): around 3m
Longo (21 yrs on loan to Espanyol): return from loan

OUT
Rocchi: retirement
Silvestre: mandatory purchase from Palermo and subsequent sale
Jonathan: sale for 2-3m
Castelazzi: retirement
Mudingayi: return from loan
Samuel: probable retirement (fuck)

So, main formation could be:
0 0 Palacio/Milito 0 Icardi 0 0
0 0 0 Cassano 0 0 0
0 Guarin 0 0 0 Kovacic 0
0 0 0 Cambiasso 0 0 0
Nagatomo 0 0 0 0 0 Zanetti
0 0 Juan 0 Ranocchia 0 0
0 0 0 Handanovic 0 0 0
While all players avaiable by position (30 players):
GK: Handa, Carrizo, Belec
CB: Rano, Juan, Campagnaro, Andreolli, Chivu
WB: Zanetti, Nagatomo, Pereira, Peruzzi, Mbaye
MF: Cambiasso, Guarin, Kovacic, Deki, Gargano, Kuzmanovic, Obi, Benassi, Botta
WF: Alvarez, Schelotto, Laxalt
FW: Milito, Palacio, Cassano, Icardi, Longo

How do you feel about this supposed squad for 2013/14? Is it enough to fight for the scudetto/CL spot?

IMO, it's an improvement since we are not really losing anyone useful (with the exception of Samuel if he really retires - which I hope he doesn't) and add a few more reasonable players. We'd have much better "second options" (and this is important given the age and the number of injuries we are facing) but I can't see this as gamechanging.

It's not even powerfull to fight for Serie A E.L spots.

We at least need more improvements.
Especially on the attacking and midfield front.

On defense I'd add Douglas. You newer know how things could work out.

Swap Cassano with Diamanti. Also I would like Cambiasso to be someone like Materazzi was for us. I mean, no longer holder in the first team, but surely important person in locker room. However, I doubt he will accept that idea. For his place we need strong DM with tackling ability on similar level to Gargano, but MUCH better in terms of passing the ball. Nainggolan would be perfect. Botta will probably play here next year and I like it, we need some pace upfront.

Midfield based on Nainggolan, Kovacic, Guarin, Diamanti and Botta would be able to give us TOP3.

Defense - here we have fullback alert. I love Zanetti, but we need someone better in offense (Jung?). Where was the last time Il Capitano delivered good cross which ended by a goal? Also, we should get rid of Pereira and buy some LB with more quality (Luca Antonelli from Genoa looks very, very promising). Shame it's unlikely Pereira will leave after just one year. He cost too much to do so.

Attack - duo Palacio - Icardi is ok for me. Milito should leave and comeback to Argentina, we cannot afford to pay him 4.5/year for sitting on the bench. Longo as a joker. I don't believe in getting someone with big name like Dzeko, maybe if we play in CL, but we all know it's very unlikely next year.

My Inter 2013/14:

Bench: Carrizo, Zanetti, Nagatomo, Campagnaro, Andreolli, Cambiasso, Gargano, Duncan, Obi, Botta, Bessa, Longo.

COACH: L. Blanc

On top of the rumoured deals I think we need to get rid of Cassano and I'd like to replace him with someone quick with dribbling skills such as Sanchez. We also need a starting defensive midfielder, perhaps Fernando? In a perfect world a near world class forward would come too, but that's not within our financial means.

Handanovic - stay
Castelazzi - will probably retire
Carrizo - stay
Belec - depends on castellazzi

Rano - stay
Juan - stay
Samuel - out
Chivu - stay
Silvestre - out
Zanetti - RETIRE
Nagatomo - stay
Pereira - stay
Jonathan - out
Mbaye - loan

Cambiasso - stay :)palm:)
Guarin - stay
Kovacic - stay
Kuzmanovic - stay
Gargano - stay
Deki - stay (will retire after next season)
Obi - out
Mudingayi - stay
Benassi - loan
Alvarez - out
Schelotto - stay

Milito - stay (i wish he'd leave though)
Palacio - stay
Cassano - out
Rocchi - out

Laxalt - obi replacement
Campagnaro - samuel replacement
Andreolli - silvestre replacement
Botta - alvarez replacement
Icardi - should be a starter, probably won't be

after these 5 transfers we still need a replacement for cassano, 2 full backs, another striker or two, and maybe another winger.

based on rumors one of those players could be diamanti, which would be great imo, experienced skilled and in his prime. For the full backs, imo we should get a young RB (peruzzi/vrsaljko/jung) and a cheap and experienced back up, this way nagatomo can start on the right if the young guy isn't ready and FIF can hate on the old guy for taking minutes away from the young guy. For the striker, i think we should go all out for rodrigo, I think the guy is going to be huge, but it's highly unlikely that we'll actually get him.

But no matter who we get in the summer, if both zanetti and cambiasso are still here next season, nothing will fucking change, they provide ZERO movement off the ball and completely DESTROY any kind of flow that the attack has. Sure, cambiasso can occasionally pop up in the box to provide a goal or an assist, and zanetti can dribble past a couple of players and win a corner, but that still doesn't improve the overall team play does it? I could tolerate them having roles similar to stankovic or cordoba and matrix in their last season, but we all know that that will never happen in a million years as long as they are on the squad list.

Anyway, despite inter's horribleness this season, there is still a HUGE positive that we can take away from this season, something inter have not had since the treble, and that is the fact that the team finally has something that resembles a backbone for the next generation, with handanovic, ranocchia, jesus, kovacic, and guarin, we FINALLY have a set of players that we can build a team around, if we can just get a good striker, a good destroyer, and a decent winger, inter can definitely challenge for the scudetto next season.

As for the coach, I really don't care if strama stays or goes at the end of the season, I think he's got the chops to be a top manager, but I just can't stand how disorganized inter is playing under him, at this point of the season I was expecting some improvement on that aspect of his management, but it honestly seems to have gotten worse, the only way I see inter finishing third at this point is if napoli completely collapse, and even then I don't think that strama's job is 100% safe

And if strama were to be replaced, I really can't think of any manager who is guaranteed to bring better results, mazzari would be a total disaster and I can't possibly imagine him succeeding in making inter play a high tempo/quick transition 3-4-2-1, and blanc I'm skeptical about, he did win the league with bordeaux but he also finished 6th the next season, so unless mourinho completely loses his mind and takes an 80% salary cut, I don't think that inter will get a top manager.

Getting rid of Obi is a stupid idea as it would affectedly just decrease our Uefa squad size. Unless we bring back Longo.

I read the WF guys (Alvarez & Schelotto) as WTF. :dielaugh:

So how would you call a coach who wins a title with Bordeaux and gets them to 1/4 CL? Also with France NT he did a good job, making generational revolution and bringing to squad a lot of young players.

There are some players that probably won't change next year due to all their huge wage contracts terminating in the end of next season. So we can expect Deki to stay one more year (until contract end), Milito (also one more year of contract and the recovery from the injury before retirement will be part of football history) and Cambiasso (whose contract will be renewed according to his latest declarations).

Zanetti does not have more time in his contract, but he will go for Maldini's record and that is probably two more seasons, unless he manages to play every single match next season. Cassano will probably retire in black and blue and that means one or two more years for him if he doesn't screw up.

I'm not saying I like all of this, but it is something Branca and Strama will have to have to find a way to work around these players.

TBH, my first choice would be someone like Dzeko over Icardi for an added 10m. That should be enough for us to challenge other teams for a top3 finish but still very far for challenging the EL or CL.

And then, in the end of 2014-15 go for a complete overhaul with Deki, Milito and Cassano out.

Milito, Cambiasso and Zanetti will stay no matter what.

-----------------------------------------Milito/Icardi/Denis
------Diamanti/Gomez---------Guarin/Belhanda or Banega-------------------Palacio/Schelotto
----------------------------Kuzma/Lodi--------Cambiasso/some loan-------------------------
Naga/Pereira---------------JJ/Samuel--------Rano/Campagnaro-----------Zanetti/some loan guy

+ young players like Benassi, Duncan, Kova.

last year 2011/2012 MM pumped 77 mln into Inter again and this season we already heading on -60 mln crush, so we can have like 2or3 10mln max transfers this summer.

I hope we can get Icardi for Cassano + same cash. Denis or some Bianchi/Floccari/Sau for cheap too. Same with Diamanti and Gomez. We can get Belhanda or Banega for 12 ml and thats it.

Livaja will stay at Atalanta next season. Obi - who knows how his fitness will be. What ever happened to Bellomo? TBH letting Mudi and Gargano loans expire and acquiring a well-rounded, proper DM would be nice (though to be fair with Mudi, he didn't get much of a chance this season, and didn't do too badly when he did). And in offense, let's not kid ourselves, Dzeko isn't coming. Not sure I want Cassano (fitness) or Schelotto (quality) to stay. Bessa isn't impressing on loan apparently, but Duncan is. Kinda hoping we don't offload Duncan to Samp in some scheme for Icardi (co-own fine, but anything permanent would be :palm:).

Give Mbaye and Duncan chances with first team. Throw Cassano and cash at Samp for Icardi/Obiang. Peruzzi as RWB. Sell Alvarez, Pereira, other bums to finance a move for a DM. Give Kovacic keys to the attack. Most important: Get a coach

TBH, I hope Peruzzi + Mbaye to be enough reinforcements for WB.

Diamanti would also be a very nice addition. How much would he cost?

Kovacic is there. Why we need Diamanti?
Next season I wanna see Kuzmanovic, Kovacic and Guarin in first team. Cambiasso and Deki should be benched.
With this squad, we can play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1.
