Pioli to Samp, Giampaolo for Milan
By Football Italia staff

Stefano Pioli has accepted the Sampdoria job, with Marco Giampaolo heading to Milan, claim multiple sources.

Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia have the same version of events, pointing to a successful meeting between Pioli and Samp representatives.

He would be back in action just weeks after he resigned from Fiorentina in protest at criticism from the club.

Eusebio Di Francesco was another candidate for Sampdoria, but is still under contract with Roma and needs to terminate that deal by mutual consent first.

As for the current Blucerchiati boss, it is now practically certain that Giampaolo will take over at Milan, with an announcement expected as early as Monday.

The only wait is for Paolo Maldini to be confirmed as the new technical director, as he gave his backing to the Giampaolo option.

Their first choice had been Maurizio Sarri, but Giampaolo has a similar approach to the game and replaced Sarri at Empoli four years ago.

Giampaolo is a good manager. Strong hiring by Milan. Let's hope FFP sends them into oblivion.

What about Roma? Who are they going to get now?

I don't think Spalletti would be a bad choice for them but from what I've read it sounds like he's going to take a year off.

There are rumours Roma are going for Paolo Fonseca, Shakhtar coach.

As long as Totti is at Roma, Spalletti isn't an option for them.

Welcome back to Serie A Hellas Verona!! My second favorite team in Italy. Spent first 10 yrs of my childhood in Verona, so you can say that’s my childhood team:)
After they lost 2-0 in the first game vs Cittadella, I was sure Cittadella was going to seria A!!

Yeah I'm a fan of Giampaolo. I think he'll do well for Milan and a massive step up from Gattuso. And previous Milan managers. Thankfully they'll be limited in the summer mercato.

Giampolo reminds me of Pioli, attacking football but not much thought to defending and being balanced.

Can't believe Milan are hiring Maldini as technical director. :blind: such a terrible appointment, he literally has 0 experience.

Yeah, the guy has no grasp on football. Should have gone for Luciano Moggi instead.

I guess Bbilan needed him for the credibility in the eyes of the supporters, especially after the resignation of Leonardo and Gattuso.

Speaking about the Serie B playoff, it's a pity for Cittadella and their “fable” (or, better, “reality”, as correctly highlighted by coach Venturato).

The granata were already struggling under the pressure and higher quality of Verona combined with the atmosphere of the Stadio Bentegodi (22k roaring gialloblu fans after the 1-0), but the controversial second yellow card that put Cittadella down to 10 men at the start of the second half honestly helped the home team to complete the comeback.

A few former Inter players (from primavera/first team) were involved on the pitch: Pasa for Cittadella, Pazzini, Faraoni, Bianchetti for Verona.

Yeah that red sealed cittadella's fate, even if the score was just 1-0 at that point, but Verona only needed another goal.

Exactly, 2-0 would have meant Serie A for Verona and the first red card really ruined the plan for Cittadella.
Venturato was about to replace a striker with another striker, when the wingback got sent off, so he was forced to change and put a defender in... but Verona scored just a few minutes later, and suddenly it was time for Cittadella to attack (and for the gialloblu players to start feeling muscle cramps).

Di Carmine's goal is pazzo :)

It was indeed a nice backheel (and cruel gol dell'ex) by Di Carmine.
“The first time he 'attacks' the first post in the entire season, about damn time”, to quote another historic Verona commentator/showman.

The same stiff Di Harmine who was supposed to become "something" after his debut with Fiorentina: 10+ years later, back on track with his remarkable stint at Perugia, he could have a crack at doing “something” in Serie A.
