I think he got around 19mln euro in Tottenham, so most probaly they agreed to cover part of his salary in Roma. 9mln is much less than 19mln.

I think usually its either the club keeps paying until the contract ended (but the coach can't work for other club) or the club give handshake fees, which should be less than if they paid the full contract, but the coach is free to work for other club.

This kind of arrangement where the coach work for other club and still got paid by former club is new to me. But again, it is still benefit tottenham so most likely they accept that. better to pay 9 mio/year than the full 19 mio/year (if the numbers posted above are correct).

I said many times Mourinho works better as a dark horse, like when he was at Porto. A team like Valencia or Roma is the best fit for him. Tottenham is like those teams but has a bigger budget and that means they will ask more. Take Roma into top4 next year will be a success, and take them to a semifinals of champions the next year would also be huge. Nobody expects Roma to win champions league

Actually it's even worse for them as Conte also was a Juventus player. And he wasn't just any Juventus player. He was a Juventus bandiera. Like someone suggested, a similar case would be Materazzi coaching Juventus if he was a successful coach.

Totally. Mourinho's faith in Santon was at such a low level in treble season that when Milan were interested in Mancini Mourinho had asked for a swap with Jankulovski.
