Mate he took recreational drugs. That did not help him if anything it would have affected him negatively. Maradona played in a the places where football was strong and tried out strong leagues in Spain and Italy and had incredible success.
Pele did play in a very strong Brazilian championship, maybe only second to Argentina's in his time as the WWII had just finished. I remmeber seing some stats of Juve going to South America and getting flogged!! (by Millonarios, not River!)

I was born in 1990 so naturally I wasn't really there during the times of Pele or Maradona. Although I've seen many games, compilations etc on these players.

My uncle, who is the person that got me to fall in love with Inter, has the most knowledge about this game than anyone else I ever met. He's 59 years old, so he's seen his fare share of stuff. He is a die-hard Azzuri fan but when I asked him who is the player that in his opinion is the best ever he said Beckenbauer and Pele.

pele, when played in santos. santos had great players with his for example (pepe, zito, coutinho, gilmar and others great players) .. playing with his.. and was EXCELLENT TEAM in decade 60' .. wins 2 libertadores américa and 2 mundial interclubes


but, maradona is especially.. the man wons two calcio italian and copa da uefa alone with careca helping (great strike).

in world cup 90, maradona was part of italians support against own country in semifinal 1/4.. !!! that was incredible

what differentiates maradona to pele.. is for pele had won 3 world cup (58,62,70).. but i think maradona was better than pele !!
