It is high time Icardi realised that wearing the armband is a privilege, but also entails certain responsibilities, among which is that of setting a positive example for the rest of the team. And while I have never questioned his professionalism on the pitch, letting his agent create constant turmoil among the fans and, most importantly, inside the locker room with her silly and inappropriate weekly comments certainly is not something befitting a true captain. He must understand that he is responsible for whatever is agent may do/say on his behalf and that, as long as he stays silent and lets it happen, he endorses these actions/words.
The club gave him plenty of time to figure that out of himself, but since he remains blind to such an elementary logic, there was no other course of action to follow. FFS, he and his wife had just agreed to tone it down, and now - less than a month later - she goes on tv to inform the world that Icardi doesn't score because his teammates are not good enough to assist him. Which is not devoid of any truth, granted, but fact is he took 16 shots at goal over the last two months and scored 0 open play goals. Should his teammates feel entitled to complain publicly about his lack of accuracy, then?
Personally, I would have given the armband to Skriniar, but Handanovic is also a good choice. The guy is reliable, restrained, well-liked by his teammates. He speaks very little, but when he does he ponders his words carefully. Furthermore, he went through almost all the post-treble shitstorm (wasting his best years in a team below his potential), and asked to leave just once. When he was denied, he just resumed doing what is paid for and end of the story.
Lastly, this situation could be Lautaro's opportunity to finally rise through the ranks. So far, he's been given very few starts and a lot of sub appearance in desperate situations. Let's give him a streak of games and see how he fares.
