Few defenders in Italy had a more impressive season than Inter's Milan Skriniar. After moving from Sampdoria to one of Serie A's top sides last summer, the 23-year-old appeared in 40 matches and, beyond his terrific play, also assumed a leadership role within the squad. With Inter set to compete in the Champions League next season for the first time in six years, Skriniar is primed to be a big contributor on an even bigger stage. However, there has been repeated interest in the defender from a number of clubs. The pursuit being made by Barcelona is a serious one. Skriniar's entourage has been in ongoing contact with the blaugrana, there have been several meetings, and Skriniar is deeply desired by Ernesto Valverde. Inter is not interested in listening to or discussing any offers. Their intention is to hang on to him for at least another season. Despite the position of the Italians, the market could develop and especially with one of Europe's richest clubs showing their interest. Barcelona are targeting the young defender, who cannot be denied as one of the tops in his role in the world, while they await Inter showing a willingness to negotiate.

I look at Skriniar and I see a guy who could become one of the worlds best defenders. Let's his play do the talking and seems like an extremely loyal guy. Don't know what else you could ask for. If there's one player who should be untouchable on this team, it's him. Could easily see him being a captain one day. If not here, somewhere.

This guy has only joined this club a year ago but he is more loyal than some of our big name players. If Icardi still bitching, sell him then give Skriniar the captaincy and a huge raise.

He's definitely the next captain should he still be around by the time Icardi leaves. In a game where Miranda isn't playing and Icardi is being substituted I'd love to see him be passed the armband.
