This made me think of something. It feels similar to people laughing at Gasperini getting trashed by Dinamo in the CL. And I can't tell anymore whether people dislike these former coaches of ours because of what they did during their Inter careers, or comments said after.
Both coaches have made plenty of critical remarks of Inter since leaving but it's all stuff we knew was rotten anyway. No one likes to air their dirty laundry but it goes to show how shockingly poor a job we did of backing these guys off the pitch.
Gasperini was mocked as a 'provincial' coach right from the get-go. Everyone knew our preferred choice was Mihajlovic and that we'd ended up with our 2nd or 3rd choice coach. His reception was skeptical and the general response to his planned 343 was essentially "we're too good for that shit" and "big teams don't play with 3 at the back." We didn't buy him the players he wanted for his system, like Palacio. Then he sucked and got fired, and to add insult to injury, we brought in another 3CB coach in Mazzarri and Palacio shortly after
Different, but similar mess with FdB. He's the last coach of ours to beat juve. And tbfh, that was a tactically
excellent match. I don't care how poor he was at Crystal Palace etc since leaving Inter. That doesn't change how poor the working environment was for him here. FdB spoke at length about leadership issues at Inter and agent influence / pressure. Dirty laundry yes, but shit we need to be aware of and eradicate.
Conte seems the first coach in a long time that we're trying to back in all ways possible.
