Well lately we are all arguing about him, so i think he deserves his own thread.

Wether your like him or dislike him, Mourinho...

A) He brings excitement and contreversy to the game.
B) Speaks his mind
C) most importantly, I dont think theres many coaches around who can claim to have done what he has done with Porto and Chelsea.

He once claimed, he likes to move on in his career to 'harder challenges' and this is why he chose Chelsea (people said wealth wouldnt buy sucess)

Anyway, since he enjoys challenges, why doesnt he come to Inter. :dielaugh: I think he would eventually pass the test.

But his no-bullshit policy is what our club needs. He will come in and cut the squad size considerbly and only his his starting line-up plus backups.

Either way, lets discuss...

He has a great attitude to the game which subsequently also influences his players. His character, especially his occasional cockiness does give his players great believes. Unfortunately there aren’t many coaches like him out there. He is also a master in dealing with media. Most imp of all there is no room for cuddling and favouritism towards/among his players which I think is GREAT.

To be honest, I was among the ones who had doubts regarding his arrival to Chelsea. But he did prove me wrong. A lot of people would argue that it’s all due to Roma’s money which allows Murinho to pick and choose any player he wishes. I disagree because as our own beloved club have shown in the past money is not the right route to success as its more down to picking the right players at the right time!

Then you have bunch of other people who argue that Chelsea play dull football. All I have to say is that most probably their opinion is either based on Chelsea’s first 3-4 games or the do not regularly watch them play.
Chelsea plays entertaining football while getting the results. And even if they fail to entertain the crowd which shouldn’t be a priority for a club who haven’t won the EPL title for 50 years, they still mange to carve out the result.

Chelsea may not win the C.L this season, but they will most probably win the EPL and they have already won the Carling Cup. Not a bad for his first year in charge.
By recruiting Murinho, Chelsea have done themselves a HUGE favour for some years to come.

I disagree with the statement that there is no favouritism by him. For me, there's still a certain degree of that that rubs on Mourinho but it is perfectly understandable.

I'm talking about Paulo Ferreira. I have not watched one good match by him and I wonder how in the hell did this guy beat Il Capitano for the best RB in the UEFA team of 02/03. He's a solid player but defensively suspect and he's not very good in getting forward either. The latest debacle by him is of course, screwing up the zonal system against Liverpool and allowing Riise all the time and space in the world to score the fastest goal in Carling Cup history.

However, he is not a bad player and Chelsea only has Glen Johnson, who is very inexperience, at that position so perhaps Mourinho had little choice but to field Paulo there. And besides, it is very acceptable for me for foreign manager to have some countrymates in his starting XI.

As far as tactics are concern though, I won't say that he's perfect because no one is but I can tell that me and Mourinho has almost the same philosophy.

I don't watch them as often as you. Maybe twice or thrice a month. I guess I must have picked the wrong matches or one of us is wrong. :D

If that is sarcasm, then I have nothing to say. But, FYI, 'thrice' is a word. :)

Anyway, Mourinho is alright to me. He's a good coach, one who can win something in his first season, although he does have the players he needed already. Yes, he sometimes plays boring football, especially when during the first few games of the season. Then he got the team going and got very good results until recently.

Chelsea is a very good team, with a very good coach in Mourinho. If only we could have gotten him... :depress:

Well, I have been given the authority to invent words. Mark "thrice" on your dictionary from now on!

If you can't find it. :D

We would be talking about a clearout if we had Mourinho. Anyway, Moratti and Mancini are said to be discussing who will leave and who will stay at Inter so whoever was coach, we should have expected something like that. I mean we have 3 squads!!!!

And that usually helps! Having said that (touch wood) our management is on the right direction by reducing the # of players.
As Chelsea's results show and in terms of reducing their squad Murinho has done very well.

The big problem when you're having a small squad is obviously injuries & suspensions. I believe Chelsea squad is just a little bit too thin and their current state just reflect that. They do not have a substitute flank forward. Getting one flank forward who can play on both sides (Take VDM please. :D) and just one more central defender would be perfect for them. :star:

True, yet we have to consider that it is his first season and I'm sure he will bring in 1-2 major quality players when summer arrives.
He has the quality instead of quantity attitude, which I like.

I´m a fan of Mourinho. A great coach!

His humour is so fantastic and funny that if one day he decides to quit as a coach I would hope for him to start his own talkshow! :p

A man of true sportsmanship!!

Mourinho is a personality, a character, a guy you love to hate and you hate to love. He is cool, and I am willing to listen to any press conference of his anytime.

You have to admit it, there are no coaches as colorful and as cool as him. I am alway looking forward to what he is going to do next.

From goal.com:

Opinion: Hey Jose, Shut Up And Coach!
3/3/2005 4:54:00 AM
Often times when you meet people, their style and attitude really make you gravitate towards them but sometimes after knowing them for a while that same style and attitude makes them annoying to the point that you are repelled and would rather have an itch you can’t scratch. Chelsea Coach Jose Mourinho has reached that point, argues George Metellus...
In the beginning his candor and willingness to trade verbal darts with English football coaching fossils Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger were refreshing and a sign of the changing of the guard. The new guard has a fantastic coaching resume: 1 UEFA Champions League title, 1 UEFA Cup title, 2 Portuguese SuperLiga titles, and a Portuguese Cup all within the span of the last 2 years before taking control at Stamford Bridge, so he has certainly earned the right to talk some trash, but over the course of the season he has gone from refreshing and youthful to arrogant and annoying. Over the past couple of months the Portuguese manager has become nauseatingly hemorrhoidal, a massively irritating pain in the butt.

Examples: He cried twice, making false allegations of “improper contact” between referees and opposing coaches:
First, The Carling Cup, Semi-final 1st leg against Manchester United & Alex Ferguson, comments leading to an “improper conduct” charge by the FA. Match Result: a 0-0 draw. Second, UEFA Champions League, 1st Knockout stage 1st leg against Barcelona & Frank Rijkaard. The alleged action so upset Jose that Chelsea players & management refused to attend the post-game press conference. Match Result: a thorough 2-1 beating.

His bold “Quadruple Trophy” announcement goes down in flames after a 5th round FA Cup exit to Newcastle and then in front of the aforementioned Champions League fixture he highlights the fact that Frank Rijkaard’s coaching resume is far less impressive than his own, in a condescending manner. Although Rijkaard’s coaching resume is not as impressive as Mourinho’s, it is not necessary to trash an excellent coach’s accomplishments and he must not forget that Frank Rijkaard’s accomplishments as a player are far more impressive than Jose’s coaching accomplishments. Match up resumes - Jose’s coaching vs. Frank’s playing - and Jose looks like he is only qualified to train 5-year olds at a youth academy. Oh by the way, Mourinho’s number of appearances on a professional football pitch as a player = 0.

Just recently Sir Bobby Robson, Jose’s mentor from his days at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, & Barcelona, commented that Mourinho should learn to be a good loser. Even when Jose wins he screws it up. Take the “Finger Silence” gesture in the Carling Cup victory over Liverpool, he said it was meant for the press but those that understand the heat of a massive cup final know that the gesture was directed at the Liverpool faithful. I don’t mind players taunting the crowd because they are the ones scoring the goals, taking the tackles, and absorbing the brunt of verbal abuse from fans; but coaches who have never played a minute of pro ball need to keep their crowd taunts to themselves and limit their celebrations to fist pumping and assistant coach hugging.

There is not enough space on this website to document the number of times Jose Mourinho has run his mouth and now the football world is starting to become annoyed by his actions & comments. What was once new & different is now tired and common. I love sports figures that talk trash but there comes a time when enough is enough and a person has to just shut the hell up and perform. If Jose does this maybe he can go back to being the person whose style and attitude made the football world gravitate towards him. Mourinho is a GREAT coach and Chelsea can win two more trophies to finish the season with an impressive treble. But he’s got to just SHUT UP AND COACH!!

my opinion: Shut up and never write until you learn how to make a solid argument.

I don't know why so many people are jumping on the wagon and accusing Mourinho of such things? He was justified by his anger that Frisk had a half-time talk with Rijkard, and the red card for me was dubious.

And against Liverpool, players can't tell the fans to shut up, so coaches should as well. The writer said coaches don't have the right, but I tell him they do. They don't get paid as well as some players, and they suffer alot from their work. I wish more coaches would tell opposing fans to shove it!

I can't fathom what is on the mind of the Goal.com management team. It seems to me that they are desperate to get some fans to just write a column for them and use if for their editorials. I see this as a desperate attempt and it's certainly not what the site need! I believe that articles are often posted on the web unscanned. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors can be spotted. It is not often that football facts in the articles are wrong too. Look at the latest example in which they claim Jonathan Woodgate is a midfielder and Real Madrid bought Gravesen to replace the injured Woodgate. :D

Let me just quote some of the articles that I deemed ridicullarious!

Where and when did he ever say this?

It's nothing but facts that Rijkaard has achieved nothing as a coach. And oh by the way too, Mourinho did admit that he did nada as a player.

Fantastic! :star: Why don't he become a psychologist as well. :D This is lower that putting words in someone's mouth. How in God's name can he claim that he knows that Mourinho's gesture was directed at the Pool fans is beyond me. Given Jose's record with the press, how hard is it to just accept that fact that he hates English press and the gesture was for them? Besides, he's a smart man, not a moron who would, without any reason, taunt the Liverpool fans! :wallbang:

The creme of the crop in this article! Ridiculous statement. So, I guess only coaches like Van Basten, Klinsmann, Rijkaard, Mancini, Ancelotti and Capello are allowed to do that.:rollani: Wenger, Ferguson and Mourinho are not allowed to do this, yeah?

Great analysis! I always find myself picking their mistakes instead of enjoying the articles.
