Lord of the Rings is 1 billion times better then Star Wars. Watch it without Nostalgia goggles on and its 1 good movie out of 6. OR 2 our 7 depending how you felt about Force Awakens. I see it as New Hope 1.5
So much hype over nothing with Suicide Squad, awkward transitions and a plot that made no sense, looked like it was written by a hyperactive 14 year old
It happens with some people. It also maybe feels a bit dated, even tho its been just a little over a decade since the trilogy, even my fanatical tolkien girl i have at home will testify to that.
Still, it was done with a certain magical touch. Same with Harry Potter movies.

I disagree. LOTR might be with a magical touch like Wera says, but compared to SW it's like a story for kids. People having potential to be powerful beats a ring they walk for hours to destroy it. Also Darth Vader story > some evil eye. I can go on but you all get it.

What I don't get is the hate it's a stupid summer block buster. I feel all the DC movies are being compared to Batman the Dark Knight. No if you compare it to Transformers another summer block buster this thing is a fking master piece haha or Iron Man 3. We were Tony stark spends 80% of the movie out the suit then blows up 100 of the
So kids wants 100 different versions of it. Was as much of a toy commercial as Batman and Robin with Clooney.
Do people want the meaning of life from these comic movies? As for the Villian being shitty what Marvel Villian but Loki was cool. Avengers fight some random Alien in the 1st one that die like the Robots in Star Wars phantom Menance, Avengers 2 fight a shit ton of Iron Man armors, all 3 iron men movies fight shitter Iron Men, ant man a shitter version of his suit.
Where they go wrong is marketing it as their Guardians of the Galaxy(my fav comic movie) or Deadpool(he basically trolls all comic movies). What hurt this is it should have been rated R
As far as I know all superhero movies thus far, by both DC and Marvel, paid off financially speaking. Not one failed in that sense.
But just because it's a blockbuster doesn't mean it can't achieve or aspire to achieve something usually expected of other types of production. For example, people making Doctor Strange could have come up with those Inception* inspired scenes on their own, but they haven't. I am glad they are using it, but the point is there is space for originality in superhero movies as well imo they most definitely have the resources.
* I don't know if Inception was the 1st movie where those scenes with bending buildings and building dreams(?) were used though
Every comic book movie should aim to have a good story. A good story which if you were to replace the main characters with normal characters that the movie would still hold up. Too many comic book movies are relying on popularity of the characters to drive the movie without paying enough attention to the story. And this is why they're growing tiresome. I love a lot of the characters that are within these movies, but without my prior knowledge and attachment to these character I think enjoying these movies would be difficult.
Trailer looks great, but if SS has shown us anything it's that they can be deceiving. Definitely a little worried about it given the supposed issues with reshoots etc, especially because I didn't enjoy Gareth Edward's other films. I definitely like the whole war film vibe though, but I bet Disney won't let it be too dark
Agreed on the reshoots and the fear of a watered down Vader.
Truth be told, I preferred the beginning of the SW Celebration special trailer much more. Those first 15-20 seconds are crucial for me to judge a trailer and this one kind of failed to emotionally tie me with the main protagonist. She's talking with Forest Whitaker's character, old footage of the earlier meeting with Mon Mothma, cut to Diego Luna, and another one-liner.
These main trailers are trying to establish Jyn Erso as a strong female leader without explaining or at least alluding to her motives, that is until you see the Celebration clip.
If I recall correctly, they managed to change my perception of her character with the first 4 second of a little girl (young Jyn) running away from Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) and his shadowtroopers who were attacking what looked like her hometown.
That's enough for me.
One of my biggest takes from this trailer was the team dynamics and the different personalities they had which is always good.
In general, I'm very excited for the movie because those specific shots like the Death Star eclipse, Jyn walking to the Tie Fighter, firing the rocket launcher at the AT-AT indicate they'll maintain their promise of keeping this a "war" movie. That one shot of the Star Destroyer over the mountain city makes me want to preorder the art book because I want to know more, is it an Empire fortress? A city destined to misery?
Nothing beats Star Wars, best movie series ever.
One of things containing Rogue will be Leia's story am I right? I think they won't dissapoint at least.
I don't think so because they have a specific story to tell while establishing these new characters so adding Leia to the mix will harm everyone's screen time.
There's speculation that she might show up for a short scene but I think they can manage without her.

That's a cheap shot to include the prequels, a universally panned trilogy, in an argument about Star Wars quality.
Before the Force Awakens, most Star Wars fans were just like the DC fans nowadays hoping the new movie doesn't suck because of the bad taste the prequels left in everyone's mouth and being New Hope 1.5 is much better than Jar Jar & the Midichlorians.
The Star Wars original trilogy had the better characters, everlasting quotes (I find your lack of faith disturbing, Do or do not there is no try, Never tell me the odds, It’s a trap, I got a bad feeling about this... etc), Luke's binary sunset moment which everyone relates to, Vader's journey to redemption, and the most iconic music from John Williams... etc.
Lord of the Rings had better actors, specific planning and a more tight execution because the source material was already there where's Star Wars relied on George Lucas and his multiple drafts. I suggest reading How Star Wars Conquered the Universe by Chris Taylor where you'll get a closer look at Lucas's thought process on his own movies. That's why unlike the prequels, the creative forces in Lucasfilm right now (Pablo Hidalgo, Leland Chee, Dave Filoni... etc) are keeping a very tight grip on the stories and the new continuity.
I love both trilogies because they represent two genres I grew up to love as a gamer and those were Xenogears & Final Fantasy/Suikoden. Lord of the Rings can be slow and may require a certain mood to get into especially if you're like me and prefer the extended editions since they do justice to the journey element of the story. That said, I think Star Wars has a stronger repeat viewing value and more accessibility to most fans and moviegoers.
The only two episodes of Star Wars that had some great, smart shit to offer -ep5 and the yoda/luke/vader scenes in ep6. Otherwise it's just a galactic epic with a nicely built world. Nothing wrong with that.
lotr for kids? Yeah, it's fantasy, but Tolkien did his own version of WW1 in the story. People being afraid that the world will change drastically, people migrating (elven bros and hoes going across the sea).
While the story of Frodo, Sam and Gollum is about addiction. Think about it. Gollum is like a drug abuser who cannot stop, Frodo is on his way down but Sam is helping him to get through and Mount of Doom is were Frodo has to stop abusing that shit. Either he dies/becomes evil because of it, or he stops and saves himself.
Gondor and grief is another great theme in the books/movie.
It's a basic story with some nice subtetlies, but most of classic literature is like that, right?
Sw and Lotr are not classic just because. There is something for everyone.

Star Wars is harder to sit through for me, LOTR Iv'e watched countless times and enjoyed far more in my books. Maybe it's because the original Star Wars trilogy seems too outdated and cheesy for me now.
If im honest i personally prefer the LOTR series over Star Wars. As a "Millenial" i enjoyed the prequel trilogy cause they were released during my childhood. Not sure what it is that makes me prefer the LOTR series especially considering that i encountered it at a younger age but i will always consider the LOTR series surperior

Darth Vader is a tall dude that doesn't know how to fight and has asthma. Does almost nothing in the original trilogy and is made even worse in the prequels. (Obi won lets him kill him, Han shoots his tie fighter out the sky, barely beats Luke after maybe a week of training with Yoda, loses pretty bad to Luke after 2 weeks of Trianing with Yoda..... with Luke only have 1 hand). Look Loved Darth because he looks cool but doesn't do cool shit at all. Kylo Ren in 5 minutes of screen time shows he had better force powers. Darth just liked to chock bitches... was so stupid he didn't know Leia was his daughter. Yet most powerful Jedi somehow.
Not looking to shit on Star Wars but people defending it defiantly look at it with mostly nostigolia. Look I love Batman Forever. Its a crap movie. But I was 5 when it came out and it was the 1st my parents let me watch so I like it more then I should. I like the Go Ninja Go Song from Ninja Turtles 2. Are either of these good movies Hell no but hey some shit people like. I never saw ET till I was 20 and think its awful. Friends who saw it as little kids love it. But Star Wars are not very good movies. Has 1 cool character in Han Solo and everyone wants Chewy to be their best friend but every other character sucks.
Boba Fett the most over rated character in the history of all time !!! Dude does nothing but have a cool helmet and a a cool ship. Has the lamest death ever !! He was my favorite character growing up but rematched it and am like WTF is wrong was wrong with me. Its like watching Dragonball Z over again... like why does it take them 10 episodes to power up.... then 10 eps into their battle after they let half their friends die do they decide ok now I will bring my power level up to 20%..... its like damn I know you need to kill time but that is just crazy.
I generally do not like space sci-fi movies and Star Wars is no exception. I rewatched the whole thing again recently, and found the whole universe still retarded. But I can understand why others would like it. Let's just say it's not my cup of tea.

I think its cool to watch the original trilogy once and a few of the known scenes from the newer trilogies on youtube, so you have some knowledge in pop culture, since Noooooooo, it's a trap, how yoda talks, luke/leia relationship, how chewie growls, no, i am your father, lightsabers are a part of jokes and/or references in stand ups, movies, tv series, games and so on and forth.
Even my mom knows that shit and she doesn't care about sw
Actually crzdcolombian uses bad info for an argument, which might be instant laughable but we all know it's just his effort to simplify and make things ridiculous. Vader barely defeated Luke because he was already crisped, not because he couldn't fight. He was there not to win every battle (no one is which is fine) but to bring balance, etc. I don't wanna continue try to beat crzd's "facts" since it's obviously simplification of things.
