Barella isn't going through his best form but his quality is undeniable. My guy just needs to reflect on himself and get his act together.

He wasn't bad by any means, but it's obvious that his game isn't as sharp as usual.

I wouldn’t worry too much, but he’s very much like the Lautaro of the midfield. He has patches where he’s unplayable and patches where he’s frustrating to watch. Though with Lautaro, it’s more obvious as the goals stop flowing.

From what I remember, he wasn't at his best at the beginning of last season either. He had a very poor Milan derby in matchday 5 and was benched for the Bayern game. At the same time, it's not as if he has been bad, just not the best version of himself.

The fact we have started so well without Barella contributing either a goal or assist is great though.

I don't see Barella as a goal/assist machine in this system. I thought he was exceptional, I love it when a player sacrifices himself for the greater good. Same goes for Lautaro.

Players like these are rare AT THIS AGE.

Barella is playing more "reserved" now, not going all over the place. I think this is because our team is so united and on the same page. We don't need some individual stuff by Barella that much anymore, he plays more "complete" midfielder game now.

@wera puts it perfectly, Barella (and Lautaro) puts the team's success ahead of their own.

Barella to be benched. Frattesi to come in and play out of his skin. Management realises Barella is expendable, just like Broz last year. Barella funds next year's summer transfer window.

So now you want Barella instead Mikhi to be benched. First bad game and you'll want Mikhi on bench. Lol cmon dudes, our whole mid trio performed yesterday. There are plenty games to play this season and there will be many games for Frattesi to start. Enjoy this epic win.

For me, none of them should really be benched. It's about rotation. Barella/Calha/Mkhi have been really good for us for a very long time. I don't see any of them being benched anytime soon. They will be rotated though and Fratessi does deserve starts in that rotation.

Most useless and insufferable player on the first half.

Spent the first half whining, losing balls, running for nothing and giving opportunities to opponents.

i can only imagine he's like that uber toxic teammate in pvp online multiplayer games, where he's actually below average but thinks its everyone else's fault

Barella needs to learn how to control his emotions.

That red card might have stayed depending on the referee.

Very dissapointing today. There was one play in the first half where Pavard did great to win the ball and made a pass to Barella. Instead of going towards the ball Barella waited for the ball to come to him and obviously a player from Sociedad got to it first. These teams are not going to give you as much time as you may get in some Serie A games. He seemed so off the pace today. Not just him, it was the whole team, but Barella does have a tendency to lose his cool/composure in some big matches.

When I saw that red, I had flashbacks to the Real Madrid game. Luckily, it was just Michael Oliver being terrible.
