Good idea until he gets sent off. Armband requires maturity and calmness as well as grit and determination. Barella for now suffers from rush of blood to the head with his silly and needless yellow cards which will cost us in an important game at some point I assure you. Bastoni and Skrinnair, those are armband material.

Maybe.
But on the other hand maybe giving him captaincy will make him more aware of his responsbility and more composed.
In the games where he got a yellow card, he never lost his head and did other fouls, which means he is not braindead lol.

Imo, in terms of giving everything on the pitch no matter what, leading the team even when everything is going wrong and basically being 'da Inter', Barella seems to be the perfect candidate for the armband and at least for the future I have high hopes about him becoming a smarter player. He is still only 23, has a massive experience in Serie A, starter for the national team and already performing very well for one of the biggest teams in Serie A!

For the first time in his career, Nicolò Barella both scored and provided an assist in the same game in Serie A.

I've said it before, I will say it again. Give hime that f*cking armband, he is our leader.

Whats the big hurry? If Barella continues to play like this, he will become the captain in a couple of years anyway, and he has a long career ahead.

IMO there should be a minimum criteria - you have to be a starter at Inter for at least 3 years before you are even considered to become the captain. That way we will not make Icardi type fiascos.

The last young guy we gave the captain armband blackmailed us and flirted with our most hated enemy. Soldiers must work up his rank.

Don't spread the fake news, Icardi never flirted with Juve. It was Inter (Ausilio) trying to sell him to Juve before any the armand fiasco.

And Marotta trying to sign him for Juventus prior to that only to get constant rejections

The Ausilio-Spalletti deal was an offer for Higuain + $$$ for Icardi. Neither player accepted that deal and it moved on. That was the moment Wanda got pissed and publcly asked for a raise.

I also don't recall this narrative of "always asking for a contract", when he barely got one after we made the CL, which was the initial deal. Once we make CL we will be able to afford more money and offer better deals. The same was proposed to Handanovic and Perisic and others. Only Icardi did not receive one.

Anyway, Barella has all the credentials - as a player - to be a captain. Whether he has the personality for it is not really easy to say from the outside. He's still just a kid.

Am I a hater when I keep thinking of what Conte said about him and where he came from everytime he puts out a beast performance?

Anyway, the guy just keeps getting better when he's already pretty damn good at what he does. Happy he's also improving greatly in his offensive game which is something not many people thought he would be capable of, and this soon.

Managed to have a cool head for several consecutive games. I expect our opponents to mark him tightly in the second half of the season. Time for Sensi to step in and offload some pressure from Barella.

He twists his ankles several times a game. He needs some rest otherwise he's gonna get injured for real and we'll really miss him. Still a fighter.

There was a moment towards the end last night where Barella had the ball near the corner flag and instead holding onto the ball or falling under pressure for a foul to waste time he just back-heeled it to nobody  Still a away to go but by 25 he's going to be an absolute monster.

We should rest him against Spezia.

He doesn't need rest. There're many mids who have played more minutes (Locatelli, Depaul, Kessie, etc). He just needs to play smarter, let the ball do all the work.

We can't. Brozovic is doubtful, Vidal didn't even make it to the bench last night. This only leaves us with Barella, Gagliardini, Sensi, who isn't ready to start, and Eriksen. Barella is the only one, in the eyes of Conte, who can replace Brozovic so we can't afford resting him.

He does though look at how much he has to work every game especially when Gagliardini is playing, and every game he fights like a dog, getting fouled 900 times.

It's not because of Gagz, it's his dog-like play-style. In the first half he twisted his ankle nearly injuring himself for a ball going out for a throw in. It was a pointless exertion of energy which would've likely led to nothing but a serious ankle sprain and a month long spell on the sidelines. Barella just needs to play smarter, play with his team mates and let the ball do the work.

Players are different unique individuals. And out of these four names, only Kessie (1530 minutes) has played more than Barella (1400) this season. De Paul has played 1200 mins and Locatelli 1070 mins. At least to me, Barella looks tired and he can't run enough for the 90 mins at this point.

Agreed. Also position (goalkeepers) and play style (DLP vs B2B) and tactics (gegenpressing vs regrouping) matter. But that doesn't change my point. Barella in my view has the highest levels of stamina and conditioning in the squad (probably alongside Hakimi). The problem is that he is trying to cover every blade of grass the whole 90 minutes plus aggressively going for the ball. That is why he's tired. Another problem is that our pressing is out of sync with some players, including Barella, doing more work than others. We can rest Barella next game, and game after that, but that won't rid of the problem. We need to find a way to preserve our key players so that they are available throughout the season and playing at a consistently high level. Farca did it with Messi and are now doing the same with De Jong (1475), Dortmund with 32 year old Witsel (1372), etc.

Yes that is partly true that some players like Barella are trying to cover everything. And it might be because the whole team is not in sync. Still, after 1,5 years of playing Conte football, they still cannot press effectively as a team.

But Barella won't stop, because when he sees a problem he's trying to fix it. He's so hungry for victory he won't allow a defeat (non-victory) to happen if he hasn't given his all.

We need to rest Barella now so he's at better shape against Hellas away match.
