Moratti: "He has got where he wanted to go and I certainly couldn't stop him," said Nerazzurri patron about Christian Vieri's transfer to Milan.
You certainly couldn't stop him so you decided to give him 9 M€ to ensure his place in Milan's squad next season! :fero:
After the terrible shock at this incredible news, I've been laughing my ass off reading this thread, and the inevitable management bashing that followed Vieri's amazing backstabbing move.
This "Inter gave him 9 millions" seems to be the main reaason why you say that Inter kicked Vieri out. You simply fail (or choose not) to realise that we owed Vieri much more than that, and this 9 millions is less than half we would have paid next year (according to several sources including Gazzetta).
Now, it's a common habit here to make incredibly complicated deals sound as simple as this: "Inter management screwed up bla bla".
There are so many factors that made Inter and Vieri go their separate way. These include:
1) Financial - Vieri has a high wage/was due to be paid lots of money next year.
2) Age - Vieri is 32, and he's in competition with 2 of the most talented young strikers in the world.
3) Vieri's wishes: he wants to be guaranteed a place in the team. He wants to go to the World Cup.
4) Inter's intention not to make this another difficult summer, by having to negotiate Vieri's move somewhere else. The intention to act honourably towards a player who's been an Inter legend.
Who said that Vieri opposed the move from the beginning is talking bullshit. He never did that. He started the talks by asking Mancini to be a starter next season. Obviously Mancini couldn't tell him YES, and Vieri got what he wanted: a reason.
The relationship with Moratti and probably Mancini hasn't been good lately. Moratti was furious because Vieri refused to take part in the Coppa Italia celebrations. That was a clear sign from him. I guess we were too busy celebrating to notice it.
Vieri is a traitor. We gave him the chance to have so many options available, and now he's going to our main rivals. He's not going to get a starting place in the team, he's only going for personal reasons.
What cracks me up is that you only blame Inter management now, when Vieri did 90% of this. Back in the Ronaldo days, when we had NO REASON at all to release Ronaldo, since he had 5 years left on his contract, we just did. Like fools. But hey, that was all Ronaldo's fault apparently!
And yeah sure, Ronaldo was going to refuse to play, mess up the dressing room blablabla. He had 5 freakin years on his contract, he gets so much money from his sponsors that I bet if he spends one day on the stands while he's fit to play, he'll get 10 different lawsuits.
Bobo stabbed us in the back. We released Pirlo and Seedorf for technical reasons (making big mistakes, in which our former coaches have just as much responsibilities as our management). We sold Vieri because:
1) He was an expensive luxury.
2) He wanted to go.
And you know what Bobo? I don't give a shit, you're not stronger than Crespo, Milan is gaining nothing.
And guess what guys, especially Han and Jimmy: next year I bet we'll get some freakin heated derbys :fero:
