Calcio Oscar candidates revealed Tuesday 25 November, 2008

The Italian Association of Footballers has announced the nominees for the prestigious Calcio Oscars 2008.

The annual awards are voted for by Serie A's players during pre-season and are presented on January 19.

Milan ace Kaka won the coveted Best Footballer of 2007 prize with Francesco Totti taking the Best Italian Footballer honour.

Retired Lazio No 1 Angelo Peruzzi was presented with the goalkeeper award and Luciano Spalletti was voted as best Coach.

This season, the battle for Best Italian Footballer is between Alessandro Del Piero, Daniele De Rossi and Andrea Pirlo.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kaka and Adrian Mutu fight it out for the foreign prize.

Best Coach: Carlo Ancelotti, Cesare Prandelli, Luciano Spalletti
Best Referee: Emidio Morganti, Roberto Rosetti, Massimiliano Saccani
Best Goalkeeper: Gigi Buffon, Sebastien Frey, Julio Cesar
Best Youngster: Mario Balotelli, Sebastian Giovinco, Marek Hamsik
Best Defender: Giorgio Chiellini, Philippe Mexes, Alessandro Nesta

No milan player deserve to be on that list after their poor season. Although Dida should get an oscar for celtic match

i think it is for last season, considering players voted during pre-season. So, it is very logical no samuel on the list. He only played 'till december. And yeah, Nesta should not be there also.

Indeed. I thought it'd be because of injuries but then Nesta has been out for a long time too.

What has Nesta done? I dont think Samuel should win it, but he should be nominated ahead of Nesta.

Maicon isnt the best defender, but if there was a award for a wingback he would be nominated 3 times.
