He is going to atalanta as soon as MM gets his other 50% back from cagliari. Atalanta is a good team for a youngster. I hope its only a loan.

Thursday 19 June, 2008
[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Azzurrini striking star Robert Acquafresca has a verbal agreement to join Atalanta, according to the player’s agent.

Last season was Acquafresca’s first full season in Serie A and he impressed with 10 goals, which helped the Isolani stay afloat.

There has been speculation that the 20-year-old, who is co-owned by Inter and Cagliari, may be used by the Nerazzurri as a bargaining chip to bring Antonio Cassano to San Siro, but now it seems he may be on his way to Bergamo.

“Firstly the co-ownership situation between Cagliari and Inter must be resolved,” representative Paolo Fabbri stated.

“Inter should take full control of Acquafresca and they have some kind of verbal agreement with Atalanta, who are most likely to find a deal with Inter.

“The thing is that the whole agreement can only be completed when President Massimo Moratti owns 100 per cent of Acquafresca.”

I'm 99% sure it's a loan. It's been saying everywhere that we won't sell 50% of Acquafresca because we don't want a struggle for money in the future. I'm really positive it is a loan, and this is just like what I've been expecting.

Atalanta, Parma and Udinese are one of the best clubs when it comes to scouting talents and developing players. Excellent choice.

The blind auction date is next Wednesday so it's pretty soon. Hope they can reach the agreement with Cagliari by then.

Not only is Atalanta a good club for youngsters, it will also get Acquafresca used to playing in black & blue ;)

It's this Wednesday, 25 June, not next.

Yeah, I meant this Wednesday. It's after all, it is the next Wednesday we have (on last Monday). :)

But the blind auction wasn't needed. Acquafresca will stay at Cagliari for another season. To me that's a good option. He will stay at the same team, in the familiar environment and all. I'm sure he can develop well there as well as in Atalanta. Only concern is, if he keeps scoring like he did last season, he's price will go higher and higher. I just wonder why Moratti couldn't buy the other half of his contract now as it seems quite clear it will be more expensive next summer.

I am for delaying the decision of co-ownership too.
After this season, we can really see if we want him or not.

It seems the deal isn't ready yet. What there is to negotiate still? Is it that Inter wants to have Acquafresca fully owned now and then loan him to Cagliari? That sounds the only reasonable thing why this hasn't been settled yet.

That way Cagliari can have him for another season but can't have the transfer fee next year. Only problem is that compared to co-ownership, they have a bigger will to bench him etc. if things doesn't go well as Acqua is just a loan player for them.

And the case went just like I thought. Inter got Acquafresca's fully ownership and then loaned him back to Cagliari for one season.

5M is good for Cagliari. I guess they're happy about this deal.

The problem is: can Acqua repeat his last season's form? because if he doesn't, Cagliari will not hesitate to bench him. He's not their player anymore.

AQFC is known in Italy as a player who will always guarantee you about 8 goals a season. For a team fighting relegation, that will be pure gold.

It's the way it is. The loaned player is in worse situation than Co-own player. If he is on Co, it is in Clubs interest to make him play better, and so they can earn more money from him. When on loan, you don't have that factor, thus making Adnan's point a valid one.

Yep. Interesting to see that Inter and Cagliari valued Acquafresca 10M€ (as we paid 5M€ for half of the contract).

But I think Cagliari can't afford to "lose him" by benching him etc. They know he has potential so it's better for them to develop him so that ACFQ can score goals for them. They got a striker with potential for free for 1-2 seasons (actually they got paid 5M€ :D minus salaries of course).

Would be magificent if ACFQ could develop to a top striker. Two quality Italian strikers. Nice!
