This whole thing makes me think of those new South Park episodes with PC Principal.

Turns out Mancini is PC too. Cause he definitely checked Sarri's privilege.

Gay rights campaigns debate Sarri

cristiano-3.jpg

Maurizio Sarri’s alleged homophobic comments have sparked debate between two of Italy’s biggest gay rights organisations.

The issue emerged after a touchline row during Napoli’s 2-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Inter last night and Roberto Mancini accused Sarri of using homophobic slurs.

“We’ve been appealing to the CONI (Italian Olympic Committee) for months to impose severe sanctions on homophobic insults that occur on football pitches and beyond,” said Antonello Sannino, delegate of the Arcigay association.

“It is truly absurd to see some very strong homophobic insults passed off as simple banter. This is one of the reasons why many young people abandon football.

“I want to point out I am not in any way pointing the finger at Sarri, because it would be futile. What I want to make clear is that this type of insult happens on the pitch every single day at all levels without anyone noticing.

“I want to make an important appeal to Sarri, inviting him to our march for LGBT rights on Saturday. I’d also be happy to meet Sarri face to face.

“I just hope this affair can help everyone move something forward. This is an important ‘assist’ to provide genuine change.”

The first openly gay Mayor in the Campania region, Giorgio Zinno of San Giorgio a Cremano, also urged a dialogue.

“Obviously Sarri’s words are to be stigmatised, because insults should not be allowed in football or in sport. Having said that, football pitches are still venues where insults are traded and set a poor example.

“I wouldn’t call the Napoli Coach homophobic. In a moment of rage he brought out his baser instincts and vented his frustration in a bad way. It’s also true this story has brought out a lot of false defenders of gay rights who wouldn’t care less in everyday life.

“If this row sparked people to genuinely take an interest in gay rights, then I’d welcome it, but instead I fear they will go back to watching football and shouting at the opposition rather than caring for others.

“It’s also fair to say I was at the stadium and the words you hear bandied about are terrible. Let’s be scandalised by all insults of that nature and not try to make a storm in a teacup.”

Another gay rights association, Gay Center, called for a lengthy ban for Sarri.

“Sarri already made homophobic comments two years ago,” declared spokesman Fabrizio Marrazzo.

“As a Neapolitan and Napoli fan, I am ashamed of Sarri’s words and we demand an exemplary punishment. We hope football can launch a genuine campaign against homophobia, as such a popular sport cannot allow for violent messages.”

Inter Coach Roberto Mancini calls for Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis to respond to Maurizio Sarri’s comments: “Do you have nothing to say?”

The two bosses clashed on the touchline after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Coppa Italia win on Tuesday, after which Mancini accused Sarri of using racist and homophobic language.

Mancio clarified his own sexuality today, while calling on a response from the Partenopei and showing frustration at the unlikeliness of Sarri being severely punished.

“Am I gay? Maybe in the heat of the argument I was misunderstood,” he said to La Repubblica.

“I just said that if all men were like Sarri, then I would be proud to be gay. I obviously respect all sexual tastes, but I like women, and only women.

“Am I surprised at the resonance this has had abroad? Not a bit. It seems normal and right. Abroad, there’s a different perception of these stories.

“In fact, I’ll reiterate what I said then and there: in other countries, like in England, a Coach who said similar words against a colleague wouldn’t set foot on the pitch again.

“How will it end? The Italian way, no? Two rounds of disqualification and then move on…

“Instead, I’ll ask one thing. Napoli aren’t saying anything? The President of Napoli has nothing to say?”

The former Manchester City manager gave his version of events today, even suggesting that insults like the ones Sarri used can lead to suicide.

“He’s really offended lots of people, so many poor guys in Italy or other parts of the world who are teased and insulted by people who say certain things with such ease,” Mancini told La Repubblica.

“Then maybe sometimes someone will commit suicide because they can’t take it anymore. How many times have we read stories like this?

“Am I a defender of civil rights? No, I’m a defender of nothing. But how can we still hear these things in 2016?

“Among other things, the thing that made me most angry was that while Sarri was calling me ‘f****t’ and ‘p**f’ he was a step away from the linesman and the fourth official. I highlighted the insults to them and they said to me: ‘Let it go, come on’.

“But he insulted me, and also made a gesture with his hand, like ‘go and take it up the a**e’ Incredible.

“I went into the changing room, by myself, against all of them. And he was still being a loudmouth. ‘Ok sorry, I’ve said sorry, what more do you want?’ he said.

“So I responded rudely. ‘But you don’t understand that you’re 60 years old and there are certain things that you mustn’t say?’

“He completely lost it. But he’s like that, it must be his nature. Then he made everything worse with what he said on TV.

“He should’ve said the easiest thing in the world, ‘I said some rubbish and I’m sorry’, and left it there. Instead he tried to be funny, a real low.”

Some good quotes by Mancini here especially the suicide part.

La Gazzeta has been hellbent on digging up Mancini's past these two days to get any similar negative remarks he said to anyone.

Yesterday, they posted his defense of Mihajlovic when he racially abused Vieira in Lazio's game vs Arsenal. Another story involved a banner incident at the Meazza against Napoli in 2007. However, today they "uncovered" the news of him saying faggot to one of their journalist in 2001.

Worst part is their persistence on equalizing the two offenses. Don't get me wrong, Macnini was definitely guilty back then but at least he learned from his mistakes and didn't repeat them like Sarri.

It's not unheard of to grow up and become more mature in 15 years (2001 and today), especially having lived abroad.

Wait.. doesn't that mean that Sarri is his type?

FUCK Gazetta. We used to have one newspaper that hated us one that was indifferent and one that was on our side. Now we have one that still hates us, one that's still indifferent, and one that's hell bent on destroying us. What the actual fuck? GDS's sole purpose in life now is to undermine anything Inter does. I hope the people in Italy can see that.

Im really impressed by Mr Mancini. First of all, hes totaly right, the suicide part and all.

But importantly for us, hes taking a huge load of shit and place it all over Sarri, Laurentis and whole club Napoli.

They will suffer for this, its is 100%.

Maybe, just maybe this situation can decide championship or 3rd place.

Indeed. And although I don't mind people looking into his previous coments--I prefer it actually--it feels like some are trying to thwart what he said about Sarri by bringing it up and to dissuade anyone from speaking out. As if they are trying to say:"Relax, we are all doing it. Look! You did it too! You are like us." I will be happy if I am wrong.

And this comes from a guy living in one of the most homophobic nations in Europe. :)
