When it comes to technical pc stuff I'm a noob. I almost always somehow get by with the help of He Who Knows Everything (a.k.a. google) but on this one He doesn't seem to help me so I have to ask for help elsewhere as I'm going mad. And who should i ask if not the wonderful community of FIF? :eek:blivious:

So, the question is, how the hell do you assign a keyboard shortcut? I would like to be able to type "È" with just a keystroke or a simple combination, how do I go for it? tx in advance.

That's the point. It's a recurring joke in Italy: for some reason nobody seems to know, we don't have "È" (capital "e" with accent) in the Italian keyboard despite it being used in the language.

If you want to do it once or twice, use the alt combination above ^.

If you're writing an essay or something, pick a symbol/letter that's not used in your language, and type that symbol instead of the letter. Then at the very end, use MS Word to replace all those symbols with È automatically.

I knew that, thanks anyway. Fapuccino's idea is not bad. But I seem to understand there is no way of reprogramming a keyboard to assign to a random key a new letter. And that's why google was of no help.

Seems like Windows is kinda fudgy when it comes to capital è, ò, à etc.

Your best bet would be to use something like this:

Basically bind shift+key to the capital letter that you want.

What Ronin is suggesting. Also, I'm pretty sure if you look up Language settings you'll find something to tinker with for a permanent solution. I haven't used Windows in 10 years or so, thus can't really give any other solution appart from the standard code.
Fap's is very easy too and effective too. Like type in the dollar sign or whatever then replace that sing in Word with your character. I used to do it all the time for "ë" - typed in "w" since we don't have that in our alphabet and then just replace everything in Word via find and replace.
