MILAN MISERY CONTINUES

AC Milan's dreadful form in Serie A continued on Saturday when they were held to a goalless draw by Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Milan have now gone four games without a win in the league and coach Carlo Ancelotti is sure to face more media pressure after yet another poor result.

Three defeats - to Internazionale, Atalanta and Roma - had left the Rossoneri 20 points behind leaders Internazionale and Palermo coming into this weekend, with the Scudetto seemingly lost for another season after just 11 games played.

And in their 12th game, they failed again, gaining just a point in Tuscany in a game which would normally be a formality for the superstars of Milan.

Both teams were guilty of lacking a killer touch.

Cristian Brocchi was the first guilty party after just seven minutes when his powerful right-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area grazed the paintwork of the Empoli goal, with custodian Daniele Balli well beaten.

Ten minutes later, Ricardo Oliveira almost got on the scoresheet, but the Milan striker's rifling left-foot strike from 25 yards took a slight deflection and cannoned off the crossbar.

Empoli created their first opportunity in the 26th minute, Davide Matteini finding himself in the clear on the break, but his shot was too weak and left Nelson Dida with an easy save in the Milan goal.

The hosts had another chance two minutes later. This time Matteini turned provider as he laid on a wonderful ball for Luca Saudati, but he headed straight at Dida.

On the stroke of half-time, it became more evident that it was not going to be Oliveira's night. Again it was the post that intervened as his low diagonal shot from the edge of the penalty area hit the left upright and drifted wide.

The second half produced just as many opportunities, but again lacked cutting edge.

The best of those opportunities fell to Clarence Seedorf just after the hour mark, when Paolo Maldini's cross from the left fell to the unmarked Dutchman, but he slipped and connected dreadfully as the chance went begging.

Empoli's only opportunity of the half fell to Antonio Busce, but this time Dida was on hand to push away the midfielder's powerful 20-yard effort.

With 10 minutes remaining, Milan began to throw everyone forward and again came close when two substitutes combined.

Yoann Gourcuff crossed excellently from the left for Marco Borriello, who beat goalkeeper Balli with his header, only to be denied by Davide Moro's clearance off the line.

Milan had one final chance, in injury time, when veteran defender Alessandro Costacurta tried his luck from 20 yards, but Balli was there to block with his feet this time and give his team a share of the spoils.

The point moves Milan up to 14th place, while Luigi Cagni's Empoli climb to fifth, prior to the rest of the weekend's fixtures.

Messina will be tough, Cagliari are unpredictable, even though I expect you to get 4+ from them games.

I am exited to see how Milan will fix all their problems, I enjoy to see them sufer but I want them strong again that we have real competition,I thinked that I would never said that but it's not same serie A without Juventus and strong Milan.

Couple things interest me the most, how they will replace Shevcenko(Olivera isn't solution), Nesta falling more and more, next year is retariment for Maldini and probablly for Costacurta, Cafu,Serghino and Dida are on they way out too.

Maybe all that "big" players are seen that they are not that big without referies, it's not by exident that Sheva run away in just that moment, Maldini,Cafu, Serghino.... Rejections on transfer market from Oddo, Ibrahimović, Emerson....

So it will be nice to watch that summer in front of us, I am glad that players recognised them like cheters and mafia club. :smileani:

All I can say about your post Senahid, is that it is your way of looking at some things and it would take ages for me to argue about it..Some of your points are just ridiculous to say the least, though I'm sure you'll find quite a number of supporters in this forum..

What can you do, we have Berlu 'the mafioso', you got Moratti 'the saint'..

Dida out for three months. Jesus hell... Considering the quality of Kalac, this is an unbelievable blow for them. Expect them to sign a keeper in January.

And now I think that Milan will try to attract Buffon... Or maybe Amelia. But, until January, they are screwed for big, even bigger they are now...

Poor Max, I think it's time to turn on the light side... ;)

Man, are we gonna have fun with Kalac until January! :D :dielaugh: Providing milanisti don't kill him by then! :p

On a serious note, you guys know what is the best part(or worst if you are milanista) of their dismal season so far? The way they handle it!

Milanello these days is reminiscent of Rastenburg in 1944. The leader is detached from reality, convincing his inner circle that everything is rosy and that victory and greatness are just around the corner. He has his henchmen transmit the unfounded in facts optimism towards the masses. As for the defeats that can not be concealed in spite of all the efforts, they are never rooted in anything wrong the leadership has done and instead scapegoats are searched for left, right and center. Once it was Guido Rossi, Borelli and FIGC, then the Italian governement and now it's Massimo Moratti and Troncheti Provera. Meanwhile, instead of recuperating -8 by december they freeze at -22, instead of Scudetto dreams the main concern has become avoiding the third drop and after tuesday night I doubt they would be willing to go back to Athens any time soon as Ancelotti pompously announced. And the situation is ony expected to get worse...

EDIT: It did get worse. Apparently, some betting agencies in Italy are giving 1:17 odds of Milan getting relegated! :dielaugh:

*SIGH*(note the capital letters). For me he's even more notorius blundermaker than Barthez. One Coppa game from last year(I can't remember which however and I'm not into looking too. Probably the one that saw us leaving...Palermo?), Croatia-Australia at WC(He said after the game if he hadn't been saved by his team-mates, who made a come back, he wouldn't return to Australia because of the shame) and this year's Coppa Italia against Brescia(Brescia goals in youtube here and here).

Anyway we have Fiori too, who has played magnificent one game per seven seasons with us! LOL

And Amelia pretty much offered himself to us. I'm pretty fond of him.

God help us with Kalac..:scared: I will never forget the howler he made in Cro-Aus match..:wallbang:

Here's a tip on how to get rich in a flash: kidnap Kalac, adn then send a ransome note to Berlusconi:"Give us 5 million Euros in a week or we set him free." :D

Even if Silvio refuses to pay I have a feeling Milan fans will collect the money in no time! :dielaugh:
