Maybe it had something to do with Sabitini sharing the roll with Ausilio. Reports stated that his resignation was down to the FFP restrictions and the CCP edict that limited Suning's spending. As good as Sabatini is, it pisses me off that he jumped ship when the going got tough. In my view, his leaving is the equivalent of Kondogbia seeking an exit to Valencia or Mario trying to force an exit because playing in Serie A and being at Inter is too difficult. Inter are better off without those who are not committed to the the cause, Sabatini included.
Well if rumours are to be believed Suning interfered in or at the very least declined some moves that Sabatini had set up. From what I can recall there was us getting Pastore and Ramires, and then some other shit regarding Suning Jiangsu and Capello. Reports suggested Sabatini had worked with Suning's approval to set up these deals and then at the last minute they were all cancelled by Suning, partly because of the Chinese govt restrictions, partly because after thinking them through, they simply didn't like the idea of them. So, Sabatini was like well fuck you then, I'm done.
Again, I'm somewhat divided on this issue. There's no doubt Sabatini has made some great purchases over his career. Even though I refuse to childishly credit Sabatini for all our good moves and blame Ausilio for all our bad ones, I still think having Sabatini would have been a great asset for us. That said, I'm disappointed that a man of his experience just seemed to 'give up' so easily. Yes, things did not go to plan, yes, it was probably chaotic and enormously stressful for him being caught between Suning and the Chinese government. But fucking deal with it man. It's not like he's getting paid poorly. It's not like the season was over and we had finished 10th. It's not like Spalletti had been sacked and Icardi and our stars sold.
I mean, if he had just stuck it out til now, he would have seen how much things have improved already. In the time that Sabatini has left: a) the team has qualified for the CL, ensuring much-needed revenue next season. b) Suning has secured enormous sponsorships from Mastercard and Monalisa Tiles. c) Ausilio has done a fantastic job meeting the FFP settlement agreement. Our finances have
never been better. We've retained all our top players (except those who were on loan), and we've made amazing deals in the mercato so far. As long as Ausilio and Zhang and Spalletti stay smart, this is the best state the club has been in in years. I'm sure Sabatini would be happy to be working in this present environment. Was the previous working environment
that bad 6 months ago that he couldn't just wait until the end of the season to see how things went? Disappointed.
