I don't think management have much of a choice when Inzaghi sees Carboni as a bad fit for his system. Keeping him at Inter only for Inzaghi to use him as a last resort would be bad both for his market value and kid's development. And honesly i don't believe Carboni is ever gonna play for Inter. Even if he has a top season at Marseille it's doubtful Inzaghi is gonna change his mind about his position.

Exactly. He's coming up at the wrong time at Inter. Carboni seems like a Di Maria mold offensive right-wing player, position we don't have.

Yes, and those players were significantly more established and experienced than Carboni.

Inter rarely spends that kind of money, and when the club does, it is on established names, not a player with a single season under his belt in France.

I do not see him returning to Inter, regardless of how he performs in France, as we will not be able to afford him.

If he plays well enough for Marseille to redeem him for 36, we will redeem him for 40. Even if that's just to sell him on for 60 later.

One should note when it comes to loaning youth we have basically two strategies

Loan + obligation + counter option. In this case you see a significant difference between obligation and counter option, maybe 50-100%. We use this to sell a player but it effectively gives us a hedge in case they explode.

Loan + option + counter option. This is generally for players we don't really want to sell but can be forced if the price is right. Note the option and counter option means we get immediate plusvalenza and then an amortization schedule. Typically the spread on this is a lot tighter - so there's actually kinda rarely a grey zone where it's not clear if it's worth it. It's generally really obviously worth us bringing them back, or really NOT worth the other club signing the player.

Let's wait for the final numbers first, 36m option and 40m counter-option doesn't make much sense for me in Marseille's perspective.

They probably think he isn't that good so in their eyes they're just taking him on a 4-5m loan. They're like whatever. Put whatever numbers you want. I am not gonna activate it

I bet they Will activating clause because OM reach Champions League place this season. Plus Carboni Will be the key player alongside Greenwood. If Messi and Marotta trust him. I Will trust him too.

Don't have one.

I'm hoping we secure possible payments in two or more years, and not just pay the whole sum at once, if we ever decide to exploit that option. It would be smart from our part. Cos no matter how secure inzaghi job seems to be now he can leave in no time, this kid could develop properly and explode, and our next coach could be the one preferring attacking wingers.

I simply don't see the point of this deal.
Same. There is no way we will ever pay that 40. If they buy him for 30 something he is gone forever.

Every time is wrong time for talented young players at Inter.

Also Di Maria played in midfield both for Real and Argentina. That was actually where I liked him the most.

Honestly how can you assert that

He might fucking blitz the league, get 20+ goals, if he does, we will pay 40, just to flip him on for 60+..

That's a good point. On paper, it really seems like he doesn't fit into this Inter squad, especially with our current formation. However, if a player like Thuram can pair well with Lautaro, I don't see why Carboni couldn't fill that role in some games.

Carboni looks like a great fit for the "vice-Thuram" position, also can cover some more attacking roles in the midfield. With Mehdi being more of a clinical finisher (vice-Lauti), and Arnautvic and Correa are just waste of space at this point.

Which brings me again to what I'm trying to say; that Carboni fits the profile of players like Thuram, Arnautović, and Correa, rather than being a completely different type of player, or a player that is completely unusable.

None of these players are your conventional strikers; they operate as second strikers and don't primarily rely on scoring a lot of goals. I'm not getting at whether they are good or bad, but we got them instead of pure strikers for a reason. Putting Thuram in the same category as them is a crime lol, definitely not talking about the quality, but rather the profile of the player :D

I almost forgot about Sanchez, who we used as a forward last season, which is why I really think Carboni has a future here, in this formation, under Inzaghi.

I see Carboni thriving in this kind of role in the field, and just in general, not too much pressure on his shoulders - which is why I believe that fewer minutes at a higher level would benefit him more than more minutes at a lower level, in this particular case for this particular player. It definitely isn't like this alway, so I'm not generalizing.

Additionally, we're targeting Gudmundsson, a player profile unknown to me, but from the youtube and reading about it, wont be utilized as he was in Bologna, and definitely wont bring some sort of quality in the team that we are missing.

edit: genoa, not bologna :D

All our forwards last season had same characteristics: willing to run and do the press, can hold ball and distribute. I don’t say all of them are good at that but it’s required in our two forwards system. They’ve showed those things in their careers.

Therefore Correa is odd man out here. We need replacement and I don’t know Carboni is up to that now.

Inter are a team that is in a 'win-now' modus - there is simply no room or patience for a player like Carboni to develop.
Sad on one hand, because I think he'll become a great player some day. We interisti have had our share of dissapointments seeing players thrive elsewhere....

I just don't agree with Carboni being a fit. He's not like Thuram. He might be like Sanchez at some day, but not now, not at all. Thuram came to Inter to play CF (before played winger), at the age of 25, not 19. Inzaghi specifically mentioned Carboni could be used on the flank, to beat his man. Meaning he sees Carboni as someone who can skip his marker with the ball. I don't think that's the main quality we need from a forward (CF or SS), playing pretty centrally, with a lot of players around.

Arnautovic is a much better fit to Inter than Carboni because he can be used in our normal CF roles. Carboni might be useful in special cases but keeping him in the squad for those special cases would be waste of his talent. I would rather send him elsewhere to play, grow, gain value and we decide next summer or later what's the deal with him.

Nah, there is simply not a fit for Carboni at current Inter. There just isn't. As said, could be special guy for special cases but given the potential the kid has, better to grow him at his natural position elsewhere, where he also should get more responsibility (read: minutes).

I feel like Carboni could stay and prove beneficial to the team, but it is what it is and it looks like hes off to france. Good luck, if you can help bring Argentina glory

And how often has that penned out well, we seriously need to take the spoon in the other hand and change our stance on this matter, now we are at least not ruining the lads career as we done on countless of other cases. so in this case it might be beneficial for him because he after all not sold on the cheap. But it’s likely still end up as a potential loss for us as we don’t likely ever get him back because of the rather high BB clause.

If we don’t start integrating young potential players, we never move on from where we are or likely even keep our current place. we cannot afford the better talents once they hit a certain age as prices on average went up too much since we got Martinez, we can hardly even afford that today especially on gambles.

Unless you want to be a retirement home we have to eventually accept that we need to develop our own players. Because we don’t have the financial power to purchase the players needed when those have the necessary experience and level. You are not going to get Thuram level Bosman at that age more than once in a blue moon.
