What tactic should Mancini use?

Mancini admits in his latest post match comment that Kovacic does lose the ball often and that's why he's assigned in an advanced role instead of trusting him with a central one. If things continue, we may reach a tactical necessity that could force us into changing the 4312 lineup in the face of injuries, suspensions, or in-game switches. So, with the admission that a 3 man midfield is essential in Serie A, can we expect another similar variation? Something like the speculated Christmas formation 24 hours ago?

I say this after a long whatsapp debate with a friend of mine on a possible yet ironic similarity with Ancelotti's Milan. The argument was about Kaka & Seedorf and how Kovacic & Shaqiri can replicate that impact. I was the skeptical one.

Icardi
Kovacic - Shaqiri
Brozovic - Medel - Guarin

Something like that?

4 3 1 2 is arguably our best formation. we produce result, better display in passing and movement. however the defense is still the issue. 4 3 2 1 is also would be fine.
the point is 3 midfielders formation fit perfectly well to our player's type

Icardi has been playing much better with a striker partner especially with Palacio's movement so 4321 might hurt him.

Well, it's prettu similar tho.

Shaq - Palacio
Icardi

Shaq
Icardi - Palacio

Icardi needs movement upfront, someone creative and who will help him. I believe it will be pretty much the same, as both Palacio and Shaq are more often on the wing spreading the opposition defense anyway.

But will this work against better opponents?

I feel like against opponents we match up well with, it'll work great. But against higher quality teams that will constantly put pressure on our back line, this has too many players up front IMO.

I feel like with 2 AMs, we can at least have one of them track back to help, but with 2 strikers that commits too many players forward.

We've won 3 games in a row for the first time since Ricky was the next Kaka. Lets change tactics before we win another.

The difference is negligible if we're playing with 1 withdrawn striker as part of the "2". We technically played 4321 against Genoa, and Icardi was pretty good.

Is it time to ditch 4-3-1-2 guys? As much as I like it in an attacking sense & we have played well with it at times, it is undeniably leaving the back 4 exposed & vulnerable, hence our defensive troubles. That said, I don't know what other formation would work well for us?

The Christmas tree formation with Kova/Hernanes and Shaqiri behind Icardi is something I wanna see.

Yeah I would prefer to see Hernanes/Kova instead of Palacio. Plus I guess they would help out in defense more.

Palacio runs more than both of them combined, even at his age. They are more creative tho. But Palacio opens space for the other forwards.

Yeah plus he brings some much needed width, so idk. But our main concern should be the defense first & not the attack at present. I'm being to think, from a defensive perspective, that maybe 4-2-3-1 afterall is the best option to cure some of our defensive woes. We are getting killed down the wings & nobody seems to be there to assist our FBs.

Mancini has tried several formations, but 4-3-1-2 is the best, considering our current squad. Hernanes (Kovacic) instead of Brozovic looks better to me, but maybe Mancini has his reasons to pick Brozovic every game. For me, our main weakness is the center of defense and particulary the pair Rannochia - Juan. We have to get rid both of them during the summer and get two REAL central defenders instead, if we aim to finish in top 3 next year.
