Why do Internazionale wear black & blue?

My girlfriend asked me the other day why my Inter shirt was blue and black. Why did they choose these colours and have they always worn them?

Also, I consider a 'traditional' Inter shirt to be blue and black stripes, but a number of Inter shirts have had blue and black hoops. Which is more 'traditional'?

Thanks

Our colors were probably chosen to differentiate us in the most glaring manner possible from AC Milan.

We've always had black & blue stripes as a traditional jersey design. The hoop (or circular) styles are simply special designs meant for our 3rd kit.

Anyhow, welcome in to Forza Inter Forums, Luke! :)

Ciao,
Tim

I think I read about it somewhere. Black shows the multi-national, multi-cultural side of the team, and Blue shows the Italian side of it I think. I don't really remember it, I'll try and find more about it :)

Welcome Luke. I hope you stay in the forums and didn't just make a quick question ;) The more the merrier :p

Inter was founded back in 9th March, 1908. Late in the evening the founders met and chose the colours from a night sky. Black and blue with gold from the stars. That's why we wear those colours.

Exactly. The Curva had a coreo a couple of years back about this, with a big banner displaying Milano at night:

Because of all the corruption and cheating in Italian football and some other reasons I felt it was time for me to stop supporting Inter. Like in my article (Lucky 13) I explain more.

I have given away my merchandise to the charity.

Maybe I'm young and may someday in the future change my mind and return to support Inter again. But then there must be fair chances for all teams in Serie A and all cheating must stop.

maybe we will see him back soon...

Thanks for the explanation, Jake!

Blue also happens to be a primary opposite of red in the color chart.

Truth be told however, red and black is a disgusting color combination. :D

I believe the serpent is a symbol of the city of Milano. The serpent is also in the logo of Alpha Romeo. I actually emailed this question to inter.it years ago, and to my surprise, they responded.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for all taking the time to reply to my topic. There are some interesting explanations but my favourite is the sky at night one. I've always liked the fact that Inter wear blue and black and AC wear red and black. The black ties them together as Milanese teams yet the blue and red contrast greatly to show how 'seperate' the two teams are.

Oh, by the way, favourite player: Olivier Dacourt
Favourite player of all time: Paul ince (remember I'm English!)

I thought you meant FC Kosice. I actually have their jersey.

About Inter's black and blue combination. I'm pretty sure that in addition to nightly sky the fact that Milan had red and black affected it too.

I guess you have 1 FC Košice jersey. They renamed their team many times (and changed their team colours). Spartak Trnava has red & black logo all the time...:star:
