Inter feel good about their chances of signing Witsel. They are pressing. Player wants to live in Milano

I think Witsel makes sense. He reminds me a little of Biglia, except Biglia is a better defender. Both are CMs who pass well, and he could be the piece we've been looking for to better link the attack to the rest of our team.

My only concern with Witsel is I feel as if signing him would relegate Kondogbia to a bench role. Kondogbia - Witsel as a midfield duo would be horrific defensively, and I doubt we plan on using a 3 man midfield with Banega now in the fold.

Hm,

As ADRossi points out, in a two-man pivot, I don't see how we'd pair Witsel with Medel (or another DM) and not fuck up completely Kdog and even Brozovic.

On the other hand, the reason Sarri didn't want this transfer completed is because Witsel doesn't work well in a three-man midfield. (and he prefers Hector Herrera of Porto)

Maybe something like:

Perisic - Banega - Brozovic
------Witsel - Medel

Although, at the end of the day, having quality midfielders for backup isn't something we should be complaining about.

Why wouldn't we sign a defensive midfielder? Surely we won't go into next season with Medel and Melo..?

I've always thought Witsel can play DM in front of defense. It seems I was wrong.

Isn't Witsel pure DM? So that he can form a midfield duo with Kdog? I'd love to not have Medel in a starting lineup.

Witsel is not a pure DM, he is not someone who will sit on top of the defence and spray passes like Biglia does. He is more dynamic in his play, more like a B2B who can also play DM/AM roles if need be. So pretty much a more experienced version of Kondogbia.

I would have preferred a proper DM, because this would mean that in the big games we will still end up playing Medel/Melo. If we play a midfield of Kondogbia, Banega and Witsel, then Witsel is likely to play the most advanced role of the 3. If we are getting Witsel to replace Brozovic, and we will also buy a proper DM, then it makes good sense.

In any case, Witsel is a quality player and that never hurts.

We can play without DM vs smaller teams like Juve do, Witsel and Kondogbia was DMC players Witsel for Benfica, Kondogbia for Monaco!

A DM who can't tackle to save his life... Isn't he more of a b2b?

We can play without DM vs smaller teams like Juve

Inter press for Witsel
By Football Italia staff

Inter are trying to beat Everton and Liverpool for Zenit St Petersburg's Axel Witsel.

The player will not be going to Napoli, but he has not necessarily turned down Serie A, where he still enjoys the courtship of Roberto Mancini.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Nerazzurri are pressing Witsel's father and agent to accept a move, and that a deal could be closed over the next seven days.

The player's consent is crucial as an agreement in principle has already been found with Zenit, who would take €22m for the transfer.

His wife is said to be pushing Witsel towards the city of Milan, too.

Coach Roberto Mancini considers the Belgian to be perfect to flank Geoffrey Kondogbia in his 4-2-3-1.

It's really strange that we would be suddenly after Witsel. I mean is there other midfielders (not purely attacking ones) we've been rumored to in this window? We've mostly been rumored to wingers, attacking midfielders and such. And then we would sign Witsel?

Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport goes into details about Inter’s transfer strategies for next season. According to the Italian paper, Inter have reached agreement with Zenit St. Petersburg over Axel Witsel. The nerazzurri have offered € 22 million and the Russian club have allowed Roberto Mancini’s side to negotiate with the player.

Inter are confident they can close the deal in seven days as they are the only Serie A club interested in the player at the moment. Napoli have dropped the Belgium International, whilst Juventus could only sign him after the possible sale of Paul Pogba.

In the meantime, Arsenal and Liverpool have been asking information about Marcelo Brozovic, one of those big names who could be leaving the San Siro in order to allow the club to respect the rules imposed by the UEFA FFP. The Croatia International could be available for around € 25-30 million.

No, the logic is that when something more concrete comes up with Witsel. Now it's just a GdS rumor. One story without any backing from anyone (Inter, Zenit, Witsel).

^ Claudio Raimondi of "Sport Mediaset" made the point as far as the Inter market claiming that Axel Witsel would give his preference to Inter in these hours Inter could also close Joao Mario deal.

if we get Joao Mario and Witsel we are done with income i guess! Only Garay if we make profit from Murillo!

2-3 journalist (Matteo Pedrosi, Christian Travaini) via twitter confirm Witsel to Inter is close, Mancini give ok!
