Hope is the only thing we have here so let's make sure that our hope is all-time high tomorrow.
I believe this will be a lot tighter than people expect. Obviously, we know Italian teams are well organised defensively. Coach Simone Inzaghi will have them knowing their roles very well. I expect them to defend deeper, especially in the second leg at Anfield. I expect them to play with five at the back in a 5-3-2.

Liverpool are so good at switching the play and Inter will try to limit that. Liverpool often find overloads with Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson on the left or Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right. I’m sure the way Inter set up will be to close the space on the wings.

As for Inter’s two strikers, Edin Dzeko is playing as good as he’s ever played. He has taken on a similar role to the one Romelu Lukaku had for the club in the previous two years. He’s not the same personality but he just seems like a guy that teams can attach themselves to. Lautaro Martinez is also quietly becoming one of the best strikers in Europe.

Inter can be effective on the counter, on set pieces. Liverpool will have a lot of the ball, try to probe and break them down. If they lose bad balls it could be dangerous.

Now everyone is fit and available, Jurgen Klopp will probably have to choose between Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota for the last place in Liverpool’s attack. For me, I’d go with Firmino.

As RB Salzburg coach, I faced Liverpool three years ago and Firmino was the key. It’s because of his flexibility. They play 4-3-3, but with the ball it’s more of a diamond when Firmino is there because he drops deep. He tends to run the most out of anybody in the game. He’s clever with combinations, he sees things, but still has the ability to get in the box and be dangerous.

Salah and Mane are so entertaining, so explosive, but it’s often Firmino’s movement and connection with the team that allows them to have more room. The tactics are clever too. Firmino comes away from the centre backs and that allows Mane and Salah to run in behind. It will present problems for the Inter backline.

He is still very important for them. Keeping him fit, healthy and in form has always been the challenge for Liverpool, but when he is in form I find him to be the difference-maker. I think he is underrated in England. I certainly did myself before we played them.

Inter have home advantage in the first leg. They will play compact and won’t want it to be wide open. I remember Liverpool playing Napoli three years ago and Napoli kept it compact during their 2-0 win. It wasn’t easy for Liverpool to create chances. Liverpool haven’t always been great away from home in the Champions League. Inter will think if they can take a 1-0 lead back to Anfield, that will put them in good shape.

Jesse March, the former RB Leipzig manager, offers his piece about our clash with Liverpool. Personally some opinions are contrary to what we FIF believe and I think he is too nice with his judgement towards our team. Anyway this is the idea of someone whose football competence is more than entire FIF combined. Quite surprising that he still thinks we can take 1-0 in the bag although I am totally happy if we avoid total trashing.
This seems like based on prejudices. Guy probably watched close to zero Inter games.

I'm taking more seriously what he said about Liverpool.

Yeah, I don't know where did he see this Inter being dangerous on the counter, I swear we always wait for the opponents to form their defensive line when they lose the ball to us.

I expect something like the first match against Real. Inter will play very well, but unable to convert it and will lose at the end.
I only hope Lautaro to shine finally and to increase his value with couple of millions.

Yeah, Inter's counter is glacial in it's movement and most of time it ends up retreating.

We can be incredibly dangerous on counters.

But we also are extremely bad at direct counters, which is just one way of counterattacking and what usually goes to mind when someone says the word "counter attack".

There aren't that many teams that can start an attack from the defense the way we move the ball in transition. Problem is that we cannot get it done on a very consistent basis.

Maybe because Lautaro has been wank lately?
Believe me i know that and i have a lot of comments how suck he is, but in the few games this season he was good because he played with alexis, they have a lot synergy together, compare it to dzeko, lautaro and dzeko have absolutely the worst synergy that i saw in very long time, in my opinion this is the main reason that lautaro display very poor form, dzeko not look good with alexis also...

took us 3 years to get to the ko stages

Not sure we are in a position to mock others
Took us longer than 3 years pal. Not the point it was just banter directed at Milan and the comment of speed works, which we do not have but are in the latter stages as opposed to speedy Milan who finished 4th.

In a position or not to mock any team I shall and will when I want. Your next post mentions loser mentality, hope yours doesn't spread to the players either pal.

Lautaro-Alexis,any other combination is a disgrace if you ask me.

I like theory of a good game for Vidal in the lineup more than any "solidity" and "stability" or whatever with Gagliashit or Vecino.

Sanchez? I know our odds are low, but it would be good for at least one of attackers to be able to keep a ball high up the pitch, without losing it instantly, nah keep that dick on the bench and let him out in the last ten minutes, at least he can not have an impact for most of the game, since it's typically either 0 or detrimental

I’m actually expecting Alexis to start. There’s probably a reason Inzaghi waited till the 85th to bring him in a few days ago. My bet is on Dzeko to get the other spot.

Looks like we are wearing the third kit based on lautaros insta, that'll piss me off in fairness.
What is it with the club and using this third kit this season for real?! I mean it's good and all. It just don't like it being used in important matches where we can simply use our first kit. Hope they don't do that.

Personally I would have liked Alexis off the bench, as he doesn't have the stamina to last more than an hour, let alone doing that in a high intensity match vs. Liverpool where he would have to do some tracking back..

Not sure about the link-up play, what I do know is that Lautaro needs about ten chances before he converts one, and we probably won’t get half of that in this match. We cannot afford to be wasting chances here, so I think Dzeko is our best shot at getting a goal out of nowhere.

What I hate about this kind of games is that every idiot will have his comment about Inter cause everybody's watching this game tomorrow. To make things worse, game is on national TV in Croatia.

Our biggest problem is having to play without Barella. I'd avoid using Vidal, especially in the away game. Between Gagliardini and Vecino, I'm not sure who needs to be benched the most. I think I'd use Vecino in the home game and Gagliardini in the away game perhaps.
Why?
Vidal is among highest earners and most experienced on this level. He should prove his name in encounters like this, that`s why he is on the payroll.

According to GdS, Inzaghi will probably go for Vecino against Liverpool. Vecino and Liverpool's style of play is a recipe for disaster in defensive transition.
I hope we don`t see Vecino at all in these encounters.

Vidal should start, he has the experience. I will be really disappointed with Inzaghi if he chooses Vecino over him. Gags should be 2nd in the pecking order. Vecino should start packing his bags, can't wait for the day he leaves
+1

Hope Vidal is not coming from a hangover. Having him playing during the week gives me hope he can pull his shit together for once.

I would also start Sanchez, especially comparing Sanchez vs Martinez recent form.
