Deco should be 5-7 mil tops. If we could get both Carvalho and Deco for 14 so it should be fair.

I really hope we splash for a top midfielder but it is most likely not going to happen this summer.

JZ, Baggio
Now with Zlatan confirmed, we should look something like this:

INS: Eto'o, Hleb, Cassano, one of Hamsik/Sneijder/VdV

OUT: Vieira, Mancini, Burdisso, Rivas, Suazo

Squad:

GK: Cesar, Toldo, Belec

DEF: Maicon, Santon, Chivu, Lucio, Cordoba, Materazzi, Samuel

MID: JZ, Cambiasso, Stankovic, Motta, Muntari, Quaresma, Hleb

ATT: Eto'o, Milito, Balotelli, *Cassano*, Destro.

Thats a squad of 22, I think Mourinho said he wanted 24-25. If you include Obi and Krhin we still have space for another AMC.

Leaves us with the following options:

GK: Cesar, Toldo, Belec

RB: Maicon, Santon, JZ

LB: Chivu, Santon, JZ

CB: Lucio, Samuel, Cordoba, Materazzi, Chivu

DMC: Cambiasso, JZ, Muntari, Motta

MC(R): JZ, Stankovic

MC(L):Motta, Muntari

AMC: Cassano, Hleb, Quaresma

ST: Eto'o, Balotelli

ST: Milito, Cassano

First team:

------------Cesar

--Maicon--Samuel--Lucio--Chivu

----J.Z.---Cambiasso--Motta

----------Cassano/Hleb--------

--------Milito-------Eto'o

To me, thats a pretty strong line up. The defence is excellent and we have good depth for each position. The CBs are a bit old, but then again experience is one of the most important things in that role, and with players such as Lucio and Cordoba we have pace covered. Cannot see Burdisso and Rivas getting a look in at all, they need to go.

Attack is still strong. With Milito and Eto'o we have two proven goalscorers who offer a threat in the air and on the ground. Milito will assume the target man role left by Zlatan and his ability to hold up the ball will come in handy. I've not seen much of him, but if he's good at laying off passes and bringing people in to the game, I can see the pace of Eto'o/Balotelli coming in handy. In these two, we have two players who are decent in the air but good with the ball at their feet. Both are strong and quick with a decent eye for goal. Balotelli will benefit greatly from playing with Eto'o. The only problem with these two is that neither is very skillful/creative and as such we may still have problems getting through packed defences. This is a huge hole left by Ibra which simply must be filled. Cassano could do it, but I don't expect that Milito or Eto'o have been signed to sit on the bench so I think Cassano will sit in behind the two.

Midfield, at the moment, is still lacking. JZ and Cambiasso are excellent at sitting infront of the back four and protecting the defence, and I think both Muntari and Motta are also capable of that role. If we signed Cassano, I believe he could assume the playmaker role quite well. Sit him behind the two strikers and let him roam around bringing people into the game. He's quick, has the ability to beat a man, can score from distance and can lay off killer passes. Hleb would be his understudy, and I wouldn't mind Quaresma being trained in this position also. In Hleb and Quaresma we have two good wingers (although the latter is yet to show it) who could allow the team to switch formations to a 433 or 451 if need be. However, we are still missing one player. We still lack a world class, box to box midfielder, someone in the Gerrard mould. In the current line up, all the creativity goes through the AMC (whoever that ends up being), we could use another player who is equally adept at going forward as he is defending. Deki is the closest thing we currently have, but I'm not convinced he's good enough for a team with CL aspirations. The same applies to Muntari and Motta. For me, the best option for this role is Hamsik. I'm not sure what Napoli's demands are, but we should be trying all we can to bring him in. These players are a real rarity in world football, but the benefit they bring to the team is immense. After Hamsik, I'm not really sure. Players like Sneijder or Van der Vaart offer plenty going forward but I'm not sure what their like playing as pure midfielders and offering something defensively. Then again, their of international calibre and with Cambiasso and JZ's defensive ability we could probably make do with those two. Another reason I feel that we could use another midfielder is that the current squad still lacks pace. Muntari is relatively quick, but as we saw against Man U he is still a bit out of his depth against the top teams. Motta is a bit of an unknown in this sense. Again, I didn't see much of Genoa last season, but I've heard that he (if he stays fit) can play the box to box role brilliantly- offer plenty in both offense and defence. Another option for this role would be Deco. I know he's old and slow, but his time at Barca showed he has a decent defensive game as well as offering plenty in a creative sense. If the club is looking for cost effective options, I can see a move being made for him.

Cassano is more of a second striker than number 10, he'd play better along side Eto'o or Milito. The days of having 2 pure strikers are long gone.

Hamsik is just a better version of Stan. He wont dictate our mid. Deco and Sneijder on the other hand could. Deco wont last an entire season but we all saw how good he can be on a good day. Actually I'd like both. With out one of those players, Hamsik would add nothing to our line up.

+ I dont rate VdV though.
+ Cesci would be a dream come true.
+ If Alonso is to leave, it'd be Real not us.

Good analysis man, we need more of these rather than just everyone laying their favourite lineups with zero explanation.

Mourinho has said he thinks Cassano is a second striker, not attacking midfielder in any way. So to put Cassano into Inter's lineup is to play him with the first striker, being Milito or Eto'o. It really could look other one goes to the bench in the case Cassano arrives. Then the third attacker could be Balotelli or Hleb. Mourinho sees Balotelli as winger and Mario can really keep the ball and bring it forward down the flank. Hleb should be considered a one too (one of the upper three).

Then if Cassano doesn't arrive, Eto'o and Milito can be inserted both into the starting lineup. Third attacker would remain the same. That would mean we absolutely need that very good box-to-box midfielder you mentioned Lenny_and_Carl, to bring some presence to the offensive buildup.

Cafe you're right about Mourinho's views. But I think Cassano will be the best trequarterista in the team and will definetely play there if we are playing a 4-3-1-2. I really dont feel comfortable in a 4-3-3 as that will push Balo and Cassano on the wings and with nobody pushing up from midfield, we will be left with only Eto'o in the middle.

Well, it's not so tight with the numbers. 4-3-3 with Cassano can be like 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-2-1. Cassano wouldn't be as flanked forward but more like a handyman in attack, maybe roaming everywhere or at least not tied purely to the touch-line. He would play more like a drawed second forward.

--------- Lucio --- Samuel -- Santon
Maicon -------------------------------
-------- three - man midfield -------
-------------------------------Balotelli (or Hleb)
----- <--Cassano--> ----------------
----------------Eto'o/Milito------------

with eto'o hleb , motta and milito and lucio
we have made a perfect team. we need just another player someone like Sneider , or Cassano . and also I think we will sign another strike

cuz eto'o milito , balotelli are not enought . maybe suazo will stay . maybe he will go
kerlon, obina, destro are not for the first team.

bye the way i liked eto'o - ibra deal . cuz we got about 50 Milion plus eto'o it means we sold ibra for about 80 Milion .

esp when your current midfield produce close to 0 creativity. Any creative players are welcomed

I read an interview with Mourinho in goal.com but couldn't find it in other sites (inter.it, etc). There, Mourinho said that he now has a trequarista in Hleb. Its not shocking to read this but I guess that our line-up is pretty much done now. At most, we might sign Cassano, a left back (which we don't need I think, coz Chivu, J.Zanetti can play there if needed).

Not excited but I am still happy that we will be getting Hleb and I hope he gets back his Arsenal-Stuttgart form back in Inter.

We are getting Barcelona rejects - Hleb, Motta, Eto (all have different reasons to be rejected though:D) and a Bayern Munich reject in Lucio. Nah, all of them are good purchases for us.

Barcelona wouldn't sell Motta if they would knew for a fact his injury problem will be over one day.

Barcelona wouldn't sell Eto'o if not for the story they got eachother with his contract.

Bayern didn't offer Lucio a year more of a contract, that's why HE left. He is no reject.

With Hleb it's 50/50, although many barca players will tell you, the reason why Hleb didn't succed at Barca is because Guardiola didn't play him much, and he is the coach who likes to play similar line-up all the time.

Jose said "we will see" about the new buys, and that is BEYOND Eto'o and Hleb. I think it is more than certain. Just sell the deadwood, and I think Cassano is certain, while a new midfielder is dependant on the Vieira situation.

Well ... Pirlo, Bergkamp, Seedorf were Inter-rejects. ;) But each went on to achieve great things in their respective careers. The term "reject" has a negative connotation - but thatz about it.

Cesar, Zanetti,
Hleb was struggling in Barca cos of lifestyle & language right?

Does anyone know whether he can speak Italian, or whatever language's quite common amongst Inter?
