The problem is that their leagues are suffering for this. I used to stay up to watch Libertadores, games in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, even Mexico... I don't feel the urge now, maybe I'll catch a Superclasico or some Brazilian derby, but there's no appeal. It feels like a feeder league.

The problem is that the Dutch league also has the same feeling, the Portuguese, the Greek, the French and German even if you remove a team from the equation. Heck, the Champions League feels this way until April every season.

Football is dying. One could say changing. But it's dying. Whatever will evolve from this won't be football.

They are but they also have a fraud on the bench. Last night was another Terzic masterclass. He benched Brandt over a very defensive midfield trio of Nmecha-Can-Sabiter in order to protect their goal. Typically they conceded as early as in the 5th minute after Kobel mistake and they had to turn the game around with 3 midfielders who can't create for shit. Simeone wisely gave them the ball as they didn't know what to do with it. And when you play against a team like Atletico that knows how to defend well it gets even worse. Conceding another goal was just a matter of time knowing how poor BVB are in defensive transition and it came after another comical defensive error.

Once Terzic brought Brandt in they looked much more lively but they had already wasted a half and that's something you can't afford at this level. Still they could have equalized. Fixture isn't over yet.

Because less and less kids are getting involved as an activity. It's becoming a farm system from young age. Parents used to yell at kids to stop playing football all day long, now they drag unwilling children to these academies hoping it'll eventually cash out and there's almost no one playing outside.

There's less connection to the local teams. There has been a huge crisis of 2-6 place teams in the mid and low tier of leagues, where the top team will just win once or twice, enter a UEFA group stage and then kills off the competition entirely and the other clubs that should be challenging them cannot afford to make 1 mistake (and they will commit 5) so you have roughly 10 out of 15 relevant leagues becoming irrelevant over the span of a decade.

The only sustainable way forward for these clubs is to become a farming system for the top leagues. And that's not actually sustainable.


But imagine if every 2 seasons your team changes 40 players. That's what most of Europe is doing nowadays. There's no connection to the team. No connection to the players. Kids cannot grow attached to their teams' best players because they'll leave within 6-24 months. Even in the first decade of Bosman days you had players that at least were committed to their clubs and had an attachment of their own. Now they're all mercenaries. And that's bad for the sport. It creates something completely new.

honestly one of the few things that's working fine, but sorry to say that the last 10-15 years they've been part of the problem by pretty much doing what the English were doing to them 15-20 years ago

There were nights I never used to sleep to watch the champions league matches..These days I rarely bother.. can barely watch 90 minutes..Last years finals was the only match in the past 5 years or more that I watched completely and even then it's final result was hardly encouraging for me to watch it next time.

Every year it's the same teams in the quarters and I don't mind it but it's being done on the back of billions and billions of euros...Every transfer Man City or United or Madrid just mop up every damn talent and what's left for others then?

Soul has been sucked out of this, slowly but surely if not already done
