"Alvaro had a tremendous first two seasons with us, but was disappointed to not be sold last summer to Chelsea. He had a terrible first half of the season and as the new signing Alex Sandro was slowly integrated to the team, Alvaro's attitude got worse. In a key game against Braga in February, he was substituted after getting raped for two goals and started arguing/swearing with the coach. That was the last time Alvaro played a minute of football for Porto.


This summer, he has been training separate from the team and has not played a minute of the preseason friendlies. Last week, he got in a fight with Kleber during training and has since been removed altogether from the team. He is training with the other discarded guys; Belluschi, Sapunaru, Ukra, and Bracali.

It's too bad Porto rejected 22m Euro for him last summer, since Alvaro's value has dropped so much due to form/attitude.

Very good player. Three lungs. Attacks all game long. Not a good one-on-one defender, dives into challenges. Decent crosser of the ball. Very combative, fit player.

He'll do well for you guys, either at left back or up on left wing/midfield where he plays for Uruguay."


However, he suggests that from rumours he has heard that Porto is trying to get Alvarez included in the deal.

Napoli close to Pereira deal

According to reports in Portugal, Napoli are on the verge of completing a move for Porto’s defender Alvaro Pereira.

The Vesuviani, who have signed Alessandro Gamberini this summer and also have a fully fit Miguel Britos to work with in defence, are apparently close to sealing an initial loan move for 26-year-old Uruguayan Pereira.

According to Portuguese publication Correio da manha, Walter Mazzarri’s team have agreed to pay €1m to take the defender [pictured, left] for the next 12 months, with a further agreed fee of €9m due, if Napoli want to make the deal permanent next summer.

Pereira is thought on his way out of the Estadio do Dragao this summer after a fractious few months at the club, including developing a poor relationship with his Coach after protesting at a substitution last season and for having a fight with a teammate during training.

I was wondering what happened to Pereira and his attitude, thanks for the info Shaun!

Too bad his defensive abilities repirt is not THAT good...

The only way inter gets Pereira or any other fullback is if Maicon is sold. If Maicon is not going anywhere noone will come in there would no longer be a need. Pereira will constanly put pressure on the opponents flank like Maicon did. Every big side in Europe has atleast one attack minded fullback who can get forward at will this is a must in every squad. Pereira would cause havoc getting up and down for those overlapping runs that are crucial for a two man holding system Strama is desperate to play.

Di Marzio and Pedulla Porto value Pereira at no less then 15 million euros. I have a hard time believing this club is willing to spend over 10 million in transfer fee for a fullback. No chance in hell Juve go for him in their 5 man mid Asamoah has that role covered.

Well Moratti tried to do it differently with Handanovic/Julio by buying before selling and now we find we have no leverage when it comes to selling Julio because clubs know we're desperate to get high salary off our wage bill.
