Haha yeah, it's not liike Cassano's role would be to backtrack half of the game. He's duty is to generate offense and I can tell you he can do it much more than any of our current players. If backtracking is part of his role, he will do it, but I doubt anyone would put significant backtracking duty to player like Cassano. Like Azzkikr said, only when we are defending, he will have to backtrack.

It's not as simple as that I'm afraid.

In 4-4-2 it wouldnt be a problem. It would be just like at Samp. Pazzini is doing hardwork, while Cassano is just waiting for the team to win the ball back.

It would be even doable in 4-3-3. but with 4-2-3-1 the situation is more complicated. It would be easier if our team played high up the pitch, trying to win the ball quick, but seems people don't want to do that.

PLUS is that it would be just one player like that in a team. Pretty much everybody else from the first string of players, like Eto'o, Milito, Sneijder are good hardworkers, so they could compensate it.

ps. We need him anyways though, so there is little debate here.

At this point of time, when we have scored only 14 goals in 13 matches (10 goals in 12 matches if you exclude Bari) and when Eto'o scored 9 of those 14 goals, then rejecting Cassano simply because he doesn't do any defensive work would be pretty Goddamn retarded.

Liverpool are the latest in a long list of clubs seeking the services of fallen Sampdoria ace Antonio Cassano.

The Italian playmaker faces a rescissionary hearing with the Lega Serie A's arbitration panel who will decided whether Sampdoria have legal grounds to terminate his contract after his feud with club president Riccardo Garrone.

28-year-old Cassano has been linked with Genoa, Inter and Juventus, but Tuttomercatoweb.com reports that Liverpool are pushing themselves into the que.

According to reports, Reds manager Roy Hodgson is looking for a top-level partner for Fernando Torres and Cassano fits the bill.

However, reports earlier this week prefigured Cassano had signed an agreement with Inter, his long time admirers.

This is really irritating situation. I've never wanted a player to Inter as much as I've wanted Cassano for couple of years. And now with these rumors, it's so exciting situation, but like I said, also very irritating. Because I read the rumors and they raise the hopes and same time I know the rumors might mean nothing. Liverpool can only dream of him, Antonio is 28, almost mature , a family man now and he has finished fucking around with Italian chicks (from the book), he and his wife are settled in Italy. Its down to Moratti to give this player to the fans, and most importantly the club needs this kind of player more than anything.I just hope if he comes, he doesnt start to reduce the squad morale with his antics. You can never be sure of him. Afterall he has had as rough childhood as Adri or Balo..

I think Cassano antics are just so overhyped in these days. Like you said Jnr, he's settled down now and I simply doubt he would reduce the squad morale that it would affect anything. I think he hasn't reduced squad morale ever at Sampdoria. Of course Inter is different environment but I'm sure Cassano would be sure hit.

When it comes to five year contract, it is clearly 1-2 years too much. But if the salary is not 5m€ or something, I can live with it. Cassano's biggest asset are his brains and ball touch and those does not get down with age like physical attributes.

edit. I also know I'm totally biased when it comes to Cassano, so my arguments are biased and thus does not always make sense in the same way as my arguments normally (I think normally my arguments make totally sense )

Just a quick check, he's played for Samp in the CL final qualifier against Werder, that means he can't play in the group stages no more but he can be included for the knockout phase, right?
