Fantastic if it happens. Like having Sanchez on steroids.

Mertens would be a great solution for 3rd striker.
I wonder what we'll do for a fourth option however. Esposito will surely go on loan.
I've heard lots of Cavani rumors but it seems strange to have two older strikers on free agent wages.
This is of course assuming we keep Lautaro or sign a suitable replacement.

I think for Mertens it depends which club can offer him more playing time. I think he'll sign a new contract with Napoli.

Hopefully the idea of him joining up with a fellow countrymen (Lukaku) helps us sign him. He's still a top class player.

Repubblica&CDS - Mertens agree terms with Inter. Will sign for 2 season.

Funny how people are ready to believe Repubblica and CdS suddenly when the news are favourable. :D Or at least like the news.

Who said i believe that? there is no football and nothing to talk about, so you i prefer to talk about shit rumors than about nothing.

btw, every source (except Sky) reports same as CDS, including CD-Sera and GDS.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Mertens to Inter isn't done as the Belgian has changed his mind many times since December. Inter are in pole for Tonali but Juventus aren't willing to give up and nothing is done in that case either.

This could be wishful thinking, but i think it is done. Mertens will sign with Inter and will be a great addition, still need a CF to play behind Lukaku when he is needs a break.

Eposito on loan to brescia to get experience. All that happens our attack will be fine for a couple of seasons.

Didn't reference to that but the amount of thanks to that post. :)

It doesn't quite work like that. Mertens would be coming without a transfer fee. Player agents understand this mechanism and they are not basing their salary demands on free agent players netting bigger yearly salaries. The rumors of Merten's salary differs from 4.5-6m€. I believe it's more close to 4.5-5m€ and then bonuses add it to 6m€. Also signing on bonus might have been included to that 6m€ net salary. Reporters are notoriously "bad" with these. They want to report higher numbers and sometimes include bonus figures or signing bonuses to the salary figures to make them bigger. Of course it's same money going to Mertens which the club has to pay but the reason behind difference figures might be this mix-up.

Essentially, reporting on what our forward line could end up looking like next season. Boils down to:

Out: Lautaro, Sanchez, Esposito (Loan).

In: Werner, Mertens, Cavani.

I'm not at all getting my hopes up for Werner, he's 99% going to Liverpool. But I think I would be in favour, despite the massive hike in wages that would entail.

Even before clicking the link, i was certain the report is from Corriere. What a bs report. Even if Lautaro was sold, only one of Werner and Cavani could potentially arrive. Neither of them would come to Inter to sit on the bench.

Sounds like Liverpool or staying at Leipzig only for Werner.

Yes, press is throwing in all these names but of course we are not going to sign ALL of them even if Lautaro leaves. We do however need 3 new forwards if he leaves so signing Mertens early would be crucial to cover some of that need beforehand. If Lautaro leaves, I'd believe it will be one expensive guy and one not that expensive guy (+ hopefully Mertens). Werner and Cavani goes to the expensive category, first with the transfer fee and the latter with the salary.

According to Biasin, Mertens is very close to Inter, almost done. He believes Mertens salary will be 5m/year plus bonuses.

Corriere della Sera: Inter have formally presented a two-year deal worth €5m a season, with a signing-on bonus of €4m.
La Repubblica has gone one step further, writing how a ‘general agreement’ was reached between the Nerazzurri and the Belgian’s representatives this week. Which is basically nothing new compared to what I was posting months ago here on FIF.

While he enjoyed his spell at Napoli, I believe he is ready to join Lukaku at Inter to challenge for silverware. Besides, we are yet to see ADL to pay such a high signing-on bonus ;)

The only uknown is the backup/rotation player for Lukaku: used to be Giroud before Chelski extended his deal, now Cavani seems to be an even more interesting alternative.

La Gazzetta dello Sport: Lukaku is also using his powers of persuasion on some other Belgium international teammates who are looking for a new challenge. They include Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Vertonghen and Paris Saint-Germain right-back Meunier, both of whom will be free agents at the end of this season.

Corriere dello Sport: Mertens also knows that a move to Inter would be his last big contract and so may wish to spend that time looking to fight for a trophy. Mertens hasn’t won a trophy since 2014, the report continues, and belief in coach Antonio Conte’s project is growing. Mertens has already declined offers from Roma and Chinese sides, preferring to join a club that is likely to win a trophy. Inter have offered Mertens a two-year contract worth €5 million net per season, the report continues, with an option for a third year and a €2 million signing bonus.

SportMediaset: Inter have offered him a two-year contract worth €5 million net per season plus an option for a third season and a possible move to China to finish his career. Inter have also offered him a €3 million signing bonus, the report continues. The Nerazzurri may also look to sign Edinson Cavani at the request of coach Antonio Conte, who is trying to be prepared for the possible departure of Lautaro Martinez at the end of the season to Barcelona.

Latest [today] GdS: Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has allegedly given Dries Mertens one week to either extend his contract with the Partenopei or decide to move on. The Partenopei patron has given Mertens an ultimatum to sign the deal within a week, otherwise the club will start planning for a future without him.

If this is our signing to replace Lautaro I’m going to be fucking livid with the management. We’re aiming to win a scudetto. If Anyone believes Mertens is that signing up front then y’all need help

Mertens is Sanchez replacement. Lautaro's hefty transfer fee is still there to use.

Also latest from Pedulla (SportItalia) is that Mertens will extend his contract. Let's see and hope he picks us.
