If Kumbulla sold to Roma, did we get another RCB to replace Godin or we stick on Skriniar ?

In case Skriniar failed, did we use Darmian or Dumbo ?

On the surface, it seems like Conte has been given almost full control of our transfer strategy.

My view is the manager should always have input and be consulted, however he should not have full direct control.

The fact we're signing old washed up players who have played under Conte previously is a joke. And i think we all agree the mercato should fit to a player profile with the right attributes/versatility and age bracket instead.

To be honest I'd normally agree that the manager should not have total control. However seeing as we're dead broke and not spending any money anyways, may as well have shit that can at least fit the coaches system.

As much as I've campaigned for Reguilon, I'm just going to say that, if part of Tottenham's pitch involves taking Gareth Bale off Real Madrid's hands (and paying maybe some portion of his wages as well), then that's an offer we couldn't match and would've been foolish to try otherwise. So if that's how it boils down, well, I guess that's where even I would concede defeat.

People here forget how a lot of so-called Serie A talents get inflated by Italian journalists. Everyone FOMOs Kumbulla (or Tonali, who doesn’t belong to the thread though), yet there is no guarantee he becomes another Bastoni rather than another Koulibaly/Caldara/Rugani/Darmian/Ranocchia (i.e. seemingly highly talented and sought for player who ends up being either plain good or mediocre or flat-out useless).

Maybe I’m missing something, but even if we lose Kumbulla it’s far from being THE reason why we might fail this coming season. We have enough quality in defense, maybe not enough depth

Like I said in another thread last week, we need 4 good defenders. All our 4 most played defenders last season played at least 2500 minutes. And that minute count was Bastoni's. De Vrij, Skriniar, Godin, everyone over 3000 minutes.

i assume straight swap as they are both worth around 20M.

That's suggested by intermediaries at most, neither of the club have suggested that swap. Would be interesting though and I'd do it. Dunno if Smalling is interested taking a bench role.

tbh perisic was like 28 when united were first interested. he's now 31. and his form has been poorer.

Honestly, if United cannot sign Sancho, they should just sign Perisic. Sancho next summer then. Perisic brings adequate experience to the young squad. Including experience in winning stuff.

Perisic had a very good season at Bayern. Covid and Perisic age are the reasons we won't easily sell him, not his form.
