There was also Danny Drinkwater, another Conte request :D

Rudiger was the only successful transfer of that summer for Chelsea. That's what happens when you give too much of a say in transfers to Conte.

We still don’t actually have a defensive midfielder in this squad so I’m not going to freak out about buying one.

No Brozo is not a DM.

Both Brozović and Vidal are DMs. Gagliardini too, but he doesn't count for obvious reasons (though he counts for Conte).

Wouldn't call him a successful transfer but he's the only one that really survived.

Why are there so many rumours about Papu Gomez? That dude is class, but he is already 32 years old. That signing would make no sense because Atalanta would want a huge payment for him and he doesn't even fit Conte's make or break formation.

If rumours are to be believed, Atalanta are only looking for an €8m transfer fee in January. His wages are also only €2m - though obviously he would get a pay raise, probably to 3.5 or 4m.

Both Brozović and Vidal are DMs. Gagliardini too, but he doesn't count for obvious reasons (though he counts for Conte).

Brozovic, not a classic DM but certainly a capable DLP in that DM position. Vidal and Gagliardini though? Neither of them are DM's, merely two-way midfielders who defend.

This speculation seems baseless to me. Conte always has a director in the heart of his midfield, it was Pirlo at first, then Cesc at Chelsea then Sensi/Broz here. Sensi and Brozovic are probably the 2 most utilized midfielders in the team too, i.e. they play whenever they're available.

A midfield of Barella - Kante (replace with Gags in our case) - Vidal almost never happened. At worst, Conte would put Borja Valero or Sanchez as AM, or even Eriksen.

Brozovic will be safe, if there's anyone who would be worry, it'd be Barella..

Not sure I agree. Barella hasn't been dropped for a single big game this season, while Brozovic was on the bench for both the Borussia game and away match vs. Lazio. If it came down to Brozovic/Barella I definitely think Conte picks Barella each time.

I'm sure that we'll see Eriksen sold for loan and Inter will buy another fucking defensive midfielder for the Conte's happiness...

I wish we could get Kante, but now that he has made his way back into the Chelsea starting XI, I fear this is not happening. Jorginho may be available, considering that he is out of favour again. Maybe a swap with Perisic/Vecino or a loan move?

Jorginho may not be the DM we are looking for, but he will certainly he an upgrade on Brozovic. And it may be useful to have the Azzurri midfield of Jorginho, Sensi & Barella.

Chelsea rated Jorginho at 60m last summer and i doubt things have changed since then. Marina has proved she is very hard to deal with when it comes to the transfer market.

Besides, why would Chelsea be interested in Vecino and Perisic? They're packed on the wings with Pulisic, Werner, Ziyech and Odoi while even if they sold Jorginho they would probably go after Lampard's longterm target, Declan Rice. Chelsea weren't even willing to loan Alonso who hasn't been included in the squad since his infamous half-time sub so we can rule it out. Emerson agent also confirmed Chelsea aren't interested in loans and they only want money.

Kante would be an upgrade atleast defensively but I'd prefer a vocal, leader type player in that position. Kante certainly isn't that. Plus I haven't watched Chelsea much this season, but I always viewed Kante as a ball winning midfielder, not a DLP who can both shield the defence and initiate attacks from deep.

Jorginho may not be the DM we are looking for, but he will certainly he an upgrade on Brozovic.

Not defensively. And he's painfully slow. And older. And higher wages. I certainly rate Jorginho's vision and passing but this would be a move backwards not forwards.

Biasin just asked on Twitter ‘as an almost random question’, if people like De Paul.

He’s usually in the know, and I imagine Ausilio has at least asked about him to Udinese.

Unless they found a buyer for Eriksen, i can't see how we can afford De Paul. Udinese won't accept less than 30-35m. Imo we should have other priorities than a mezzala in January. Side cb. Left wingback. Vice Brozovic. Vice Lukaku. De Paul and Papu Gomez would improve the squad but they're luxuries.

Can't really bring up something like this with no source being cited. The only things "Wijnaldum Inter" in Google turns up for me are "Inter to battle Barcelona", etc. from shit rags like The Sun.

Maybe in the summer on a free. I can't see us paying a fee to get a player who will be out of contract in 6 months under present circumstances.

Kante, De Paul, Wijnaldum (fuck that was hard to spell) We’re all having a laugh. Alfred Duncan or Thomas Rincon are more believable during January. I’m sure we’ll get a couple of potatoes in swaps for Eriksen and Nainggolan too.

lol indeed! Make me laugh when I read stuff like: Barca want Martinez? Offer Griezmann + 100m and you got him! While in reality no club is gonna offer even 80m for him and Inter can't even sell the likes of Joao Mario or even fucking Longo for good!

Gazzetta claim Conte's dream for the midfield is Renato Sanches. I remember him being a flop at Bayern. Does anyone have an idea how he's doing in France?
