If the recent reports are factual and I've understood them correctly:
1. Akanji is valued at €20m
2. However, due to his expiring contract and no longer being part of Dortmund's project, he is available for just €10m
3. Inter, however, have been advised by ownership that our budget for a new defender is literally €0
4. Therefore, we can not sign even a shitter like Akanji for a measly €10m
Great. Just great stuff all round. Love this club.
The one positive is that Acerbi is under contract at Lazio until 2025 earning €2.5m net per season (

) That means we can't afford Acerbi either as we'd have to pay a transfer fee. Surely Lotito won't let him walk for free? Terminating his contract would result in a small capital loss for Lazio too.
Then again, considering that Lazio are due to pay him €7.5m over the next 3 years (a near 15m gross commitment), maybe they prefer to take a small minusvalenza hit so they can get him off their books ASAP.
I have this nightmare scenario in mind where we come to some three-way arrangement where Lazio terminate Acerbi's contract for free and we commit to paying the rest of his contract with a 2 year deal at €4m per season. AKA the reverse-Sanchez. Or, knowing us and our cheap ways, a 4 year deal at €2m per season...
