Lukaku is finished. We all knew this already but he had some decent-ish moments and a few goals over the past month or so and it seemed like a minor recovery might be plausible, but no.
Against Spezia was one of the worst games yet, despite the goal. He no longer has the confidence to actually try anything. All he's willing or able to do, is to try and lay off return passes. He can't shoot, he can't attack space, he can't run at his man. He's literally serving as a rebounding board and nothing more. He's like a trauma victim who can no longer drive after being involved in a bad car crash.
Dzeko is fucking done too. Just a few short months ago it seemed like a renewal might be a clever option but somehow, despite getting plenty of rest, he looks completely spent.
With Correa being a joke of a player and Lautaro wildly prone to extreme capitulations, as far as I'm concerned, we're heading into next season with 0.5 functional forwards. I can't believe I'm saying this, but we must do it. We must bring him back.
