10 years of FIF
Several members of the current squad are on the last year of their contracts. With their salaries off the book opportunities might arise for the new additions. Even if we extend some of them they'll be on lower terms (except Skriniar), so we could still afford players like Thuram.Regarding forwards it is a very tricky situation. As we saw last summer with Dybala we can't sign anyone, even on a free, unless we're certain about an exit.
We never closed for Dybala because there was no guarantee we could offload one of Dzeko and Correa. We signed Lukaku only because it was a certainty we would give a golden handshake to Sanchez. It was only a matter of when.
So giving an extension to Dzeko would diminish any chances for Thuram. Thuram isn't going to wait for Inter so management needs to decide now. We can argue that Correa could be offloaded in the summer but management needs to make a decision in January with the knowledge Correa still has two years left in his contract and a substantial value in our books. So it will probably come between Thuram and Lukaku. Problem is we don't have a fair assessment of what current Lukaku can offer because of his fitness. So any decision would be made on a guess.
