"FORLAN IS OK. TOP 5 IN THE WORLD."
Inter-Forlan: we also spoke with Alvaro Recoba, a life at Inter, other life in the national team with the Golden Ball winner of the World Cup in South Africa. Chino will play today in Nacional of Montevideo and has scored two goals in his last two league games.
Recoba, who is Diego Forlan?
"A great striker. A complete one."
Have Inter made a good deal?
"I realize that the loss of Eto'o can not be entirely painless but Diego is now there. He is the leader of a national team that just won the Copa America title in Argentina and a team was a semifinalist at the last World Cup. We are talking about a phenomenon. Serie A is for him and he'll score a avalanche of goals."
Thirty two years old is not little old?
"Not for Forlan. He is a professional. He is great physical and trains very hard. He is a very serious and reliable person. To understand this better, he is a kind of Javier Zanetti, people that just don't age."
His characteristics?
"He can do it all. First striker, winger or as a trequartista. He can use both feet and at at a distance, he can really do some good damage."
So Inter fans can be calm. There was the fear that Moratti is kinda demotivated.
"Moratti is the best guarantee for the fans. Again, Forlan is among the five strongest strikers in the world. So I don't think that this move comes from a demotivated president."
And what about Recoba?
"I'm enjoying the season with Nacional. I started well by scoring and I'm enjoying it. Later I will assess calmly my future. I certainly would like to work with young people."
Is this your last season as a footballer?
"Maybe because I'm going to be 36 years old. Then? I will return to live in Italy, a country that is in the heart of my family."
Have an agreement with Moratti?
"No (smiles). I've heard from the president a few times but we talk about other things like our families. There is much affection, sincerity and he is a very important person for me."
still waiting for that "avalanche of goals"
Gotta admit I wasn't a hard fan back then and I didn't see most of his goals untill now....
And I must ask something, in that season when we lost the scudetto on the last game :fffuuu:
Wtf was the deal with Recoba, I heard he could not play untill the very last games of the season..
How true is that and why?
He was very injury prone. Play 3-4 matches in a row and got injured for weeks and sometimes for months. Same with our other striker Bobo Vieri and Ronaldo. In several matches at the beginning of that season (2001/2002) IIRC we mostly played with Kallon - Ventola duo
Btw 2001/2002 matchday 28 Inter - Roma 3-1 probably one of his best performance also our best performance under Hector Cuper :star:

After his tenure at Venezia, which lasted less than one season, Recoba returned to Inter. In January 2001, he renewed his contract with the club until June 30, 2006. But during the same month he faced problems with a fake passport, losing the Italian nationality he received in 1999. He was punished with a one-year ban, which was later reduced to four months on appeal.
Yeah I know he was a injury prone, but I thought it was somethng else, well I found this on Wikipedia
So is that the reason he missed most of the season when he wasn't even injuried?
Damn if true, we'd probably have another scudetti by now if we had him for the whole season (and he didn't injurie himself).

Recoba played excellently at the begining and to be honet he really deserved to be paid the most as he was a young man on the rise. He was loaned to Venezia where he proved to be a key player by keeping them in the league. If he only had a longer playing time it would turn out way better. He should've worked a bit on his strenght and endurance, that is all.
