And Mhkitaryan should be benched rofl
as of right now, perhaps Barella should be... But yes, I expect that our 35M signings will play in front of 35 year old... Shocking right?

Nah, that's what a shitty defense, team, city, league, country and its people does to you.

We all have eyes, he was a top goalkeeper with us, and we should have gotten more for him..
shitty defense that had the most clean sheets last season. ok, sure, lets make every single excuse for this guy... If only people were so nice to Handa.

And no, he was not a top GK... 2 saves vs Porto dont make you top.

So doesn't matter how well the 35 year old is playing right? His price tag warrants playing time? Lmao what a logic

First part holds true in general but we can't tell if this is valid here. But for someone who lived in Barcelona, Amsterdam and Milano, I think you're getting somewhere here :D

But let's be real. At Manchester United is showing exactly what we feared when we signed him - plus the 10 month inactivity - because this is what he's known for. His weaknesses are highlighted and exaggerated because Manchester United is a bad team, with zero cohesion at the back and the whole environment in this marketing frenzy era where these players face no pressure on a daily or even weekly basis, is just taxing on all that.

He was not a "top goalkeeper" for us, he started off quite bad, similar to his Manchester United level. Remember Bayern games, Barcelona game away and several Serie A games until we fixed our defense. He hardly made any saves that were crucial and those came in February. He's had a good spell, especially that Porto game was incredible and enabled us to get our heads high once again. Had one great save vs Benfica when the entire thing was settled but could be blamed for like all three goals we conceded at the home game as well. We obliterated Milan and allowed them like zero chances. He deserves praise for allowing us to expand our playing from the back and he was part of a cohesive unit where everyone was sticking to their role. He doesn't have that now. But having that meant that it was an easy job overall. He arguably stepped up twice in the entire season where he gave us points/qualification. That's not enough to rate him so high as people have been doing. That was an irrational behavior from the majority of FIF.

I do agree that we should have gotten more for him, but not because he's a top goalkeeper. He's a good goalkeeper that has a few great moments but many more hillariously bad ones. We were lucky that he didn't have that many with us, especially when it mattered. Because if you want to check howlers, he's had his share with us, too. But most didn't cost us. Salernitana was one that everyone remembers, but in most times our defense was quick to fix the mistake. At Manchester United, they're not.

Once we fixed our defense, Onana started to look good. Because he was rarely under pressure. Now he constantly is. He's never been in this situation either. At Ajax they were always in control, too. And that's how he was raised with Barcelona. And Cameroon mostly dominates in Africa. He's not used to being in a circus and now he's labeled as the lead clown, which is rough on him. He doesn't deserve all this criticism, but you rise much higher than you're supposed to (hype) and you fall much harder.

he didn't have a great season because of 2 saves vs porto. his whole cl campaign was great. he had the best stats out of all cl keepers. also his passing abilities were essential for our game last season. he had some crazy saves as well. I remember a great assist by him vs Barcelona. at this point it is pretty obvious you just hate this guy for some reason since you are biased as fuck regarding him

Signing him on a free and selling him to Man U for a massive capital gain is some of the best business we’ve ever done.

I still think Onana is a class keeper with a solid defense in front of him. Certainly prone to some errors but I sure do miss his feet when we have to play out from the press.

I know we might not always get absolute top dollar but we have become great sellers in terms of getting rid of players that don’t truly impact our core. While at the same time those players have almost never performed at the same level they have for us.

Honestly wondering how long we can keep getting away with it. Who is going to buy an Inter player on the market for top dollar after Lukaku and Onana? I guess there’s always a sucker.

Exactly. He was immune to press. He was running around forwards with the ball making them look like amateurs but people here are like the only good thing he did was 2 saves vs Porto

ManU is using Onana in a completely wrong way. He is best to relieve pressure when the opponent is playing pressing football. Or when we sit deep and launch counter-attack.

They are expecting him to be the...playmaker by setting the others too high up front to receive long-ball hoofs. Sorry, when teams are physical enough, especially in PL, that would not work. He is a GK ffs. Shield the GK, limit the space to cover his not-so-quick reflexing weakness.

Would gladly take him back if cheap. Then watch the Reds fans scratching their head why they are seeing a beast here again :D

Running around forwards that lead to nothing. Wow, if only he could make some saves, then we wouldn't end up losing the scudetto by 20 points. People really just look at that champions league run and say that he's great, while forgetting that in Serie A he was a middle of a pack gk..
Crazy how we are doing just fine with a 35 year old on goal that doesnt know how to run around gk's, or how we won the scudetto with a finished gk, that also couldt do that useless shit.
Also, the mistakes Onana did this season were not cause of the defense, but they were all on him.
But whatever, i dont "like the guy"... crazy that none of the teams, or the national teams fanbases also didnt like him... idk, perhaps hes just not that great and no one really gives a shit about him running around forwards, but would rather have someone that could actually make saves and not fuck ups.

I really don't get this negativism towards Onana? He was great for us, because of his unique skill to play as a midfielder, and that was so good fit for our style of play. If Man U are ready to sacrifice him as a scapegoat, I don't mind him coming back for some low fee like 10-15mln. His salary will be a issue though, but I believe the GD could be still applied.

Some people have no idea how important the environment is to a player. Onana was a different goalkeeper here. He might not be as great as Handanovic as shot stopper but his characteristics in overall were essential to this Inter. He was actually one of few reasons that we managed to bounce back after that run of terrible form last season. Once we dropped Handanovic out of line-up, things have gotten significiantly better, and our defence looked more competent.

ManUtd is a toxic place, and I'm not even shocked after all these errors by Onana because even players with stronger character will eventually collapse there.

I really hope he bounces back. He isn't as bad as what it seems these days.

This is the second player I see getting picked for the resurgence.
It's not accurate.

Under Onana we had the same terrible results as with Handanovic, probably even worse.
The other player mentioned is Lukaku. Also not true.

The player whose return coincided with our resurgence was Marcelo Brozovic and also the fact that Mkhitaryan grew to his role and became integral.

The turnaround came during the Benfica games and that's also when we had everybody back. And I do mean everyone. There is no one player that made that happen.
Onana may have sparked it with his Porto performances, but aside from that he wasn't the catalyst in gaining results. But his ability to play from the back enabled some results obviously.

Everything else is just revisionist favoritism.

ManUtd is a toxic place, and I'm not even shocked after all these errors by Onana because even players with stronger character will eventually collapse there.

True.

Toxic place, bad setup overall, but again a lot of it is on Onana himself. He tries too much because of the general incompetence around his defense and that backfires. And since he's off to a bad start, he managed to get into this loop of trying even harder. And it failed. Confidence is shattered and for GKs and strikers that's pretty much a warning sign.

Only thing that can clear his head is eating bench for a month, but that could also backfire for a number of reasons.

Given the team he plays for, I don't wish him well this season. But I do wish he somehow escapes that hellhole and moves to La Liga or something where he'll be appreciated.

are there any stats on the number of shots he faced at Inter vs United? I'd be interested to see it. He's clearly not playing well atm, but the overall team there is shite anyway
