When PES was still alive, I used to start Master League with Inter just to enjoy getting rid of all the deadwoods and useless oldbags ASAP. It was like a meditation to me. I didn't even play the game. Just enjoyed selling more than half the squad.

PES is no longer around, but we still are dealing with overpaid deadwoods.

Unfortunately unlike in PES, nobody is eager to pay anything for these leeches in real life and we have to pay them to bugger off,

nope, we paid him to become a free agent

he basically had an option that gets triggered, I assume on the final day of his current deal but we're allowed to compensate him for not triggering it

I think clauses like that are very common in MLB, actually, where either there's a team option to extend the contract another year at X salary, or you pay a small buyout instead for not picking up the option.
