We got the last scraps of what was at one time a special player. He had his best years at Juve and Bayern. Even by the time he went to Barca he was on the decline. We probably never should have signed him however I think that goal against Juventus kind of justified his signing a bit. We had a huge inferiority complex and we kind of needed someone like him to help get us over that hump. It was certainly the highlight of his Inter career.

Technically a transfer is always about breaking the current contract. So it's up to the clubs to decide if there needs to be some compensation for breaking that contract. Then it's up to the current club and the player to decide if there is gonna be a golden handshake.
