Valencia Have It Easy Against Anderlecht

9/14/2004 11:45:00 PM

Valencia start off their Champions League campaign with a convincing victory against Anderlecht.

Claudio Ranieri surprisingly decides to start the match without all the Italian players including the experienced Amedeo Carboni and the Valencia veterans pay him back. It takes only 45 minutes fot the Spanish side to secure the victory with a 2-0 lead and the opponents only showcase the talent of their best players like Kompany, Traore, Dindane and Wihelmsson but it’s not enough to worry Valencia’s defenders.

A part from the two goals the first half isn’t very entertaining and during the first fifteen minutes nothing much happens. Then Valencia take the lead with close range shot by Vicente after that the goalkeeper fails to control Rufete’s shot. Anderlecht try to react but it looks like they can’t overcome their opponents and Dindane hardly ever receives a good pass. The only dangerous shot comes from Baseggio at the 33rd minute but the ball goes over the crossbar.

However the action isn’t over yet and in the dying moments of the first half Baraja doubles the lead with a precise shot from out of the box and for Zitka there isn’t much to do save it.

In the second half Valencia sit back a bit and they give Anderlecht a chance to come back into the game but they never come close to Canizares. The home side go close to scoring again with Rufete at the 51st minute but his shot finishes wide. Dindane does his best to put his team back on track but he hasn’t got enough support from his team mates a part from Wihelmsson. If Broos wants his team to qualify for the next stage he has a lot of work to do. - I hope he wont be able to do anything till after our two games with them lol- MATCH STATS:

And you're the most optimistic Interista i've ever met. :D

Anyway, sticking around for a couple of seasons is sure to change that opinion. ;)

Ciao,
Tim

Aimar blow for Valencia

ValenciaValencia's Pablo Aimar will be out for three weeks after straining his thigh.

The Argentina international is expected to need at least 20 days to recover from a slight tear in his leg muscle.

Aimar picked up the injury in the Primera Liga match against Real Sociedad - limping off after 50 minutes.

The injury comes at a crucial juncture of Valencia's season, with the South American star set to miss out on five matches.

One of those five is the UEFA Champions League match against Internazionale - and coach Claudio Ranieri will be forced to do without one of the side's stars.

Not sure where to post this, so i will put this in here. Good news for Inter :)

We really should beat Anderlecht, then the Valencia games would be much easier.

Inter and Milan will always play on the same day, that sucks cause I won't ever be able to watch a game properly since my bro is a Milan fan and he obvioulsy wants to watch parts of the Milan's game as well  :fero:

That has to be frustrating, Francesco... :stress: So I assume you have one TV only then?

Why does it seem that your brother is the dominant man in the house? Well, a simple suggestion for me will be to share the TV. Ask him to choose whether he wants to watch the first half only or the second half. If you can't decide, do a simple coin toss. ;)

Lol Han Solo, it's not like we watch just Milan. We flick the channels every 5 minutes or so (even if we have a little rule that says we watch more of the game played at the S Siro). I just wish the games were on different days so we could both watch them properly.

It would be great if Bremen could steal valencia on few points! Lets hope they can hold on to the current draw :)

Valencia is missing Marchena next game which is against us at the Mestalla. If we can grab at least a draw, it will be quite a close that we qualify, remember we have still home game against Anderlecth as our last game on December.

Adriano - #10
I'm very happy that Valencia lost. Now we alone are on top of the group with 6 points. If we can beat Valencia then our chances of qualifying will look very good.
