Zaccheroni to resign
Tuesday, 15 June 2004

by Nadia Carminati

Alberto Zaccheroni has confirmed he is resigning from Internazionale, with Roberto Mancini tipped to replace him as coach.

The Neroazzurri boss has been under pressure with Massimo Moratti understood to have held talks with Lazio's Mancini after targeting the up-and-coming Italian.

"I resign because, despite having the support of president Giacinto Facchetti, I haven't seen the club's faith towards me in the talks with Moratti," Zaccheroni told Corriere dello Sport.

"I leave because nobody informed me about the market operations.

"I'm sorry to leave this bench, ending this adventure in this way.

"I came during the season, with the conviction to be able to play with my possibilities. My professional history shows that, when I had the possibility to work from the beginning of the season, I have never lacked results.

"I arrived here when Inter were eighth in the league, I finished fourth but this hasn't been enough.

"In the UEFA Champions League, we have been eliminated by Lokomotiv Moscow while, in the Coppa Italia, we went out only in the semi-finals with Juventus on penalties.

"I remain convinced that, with only a few changes, we would have become competitive on a high level."

i feel sorry for him...why did he leave...lol...YEAH!!!

This is really no way to treat people by Inter...Zac came in and did a good job whether we like his tactics or not he got us what we wanted,no way to pay him back this way, poor guy is an Inter fan. This is just bad karma for the club...and in the future this will show that we cant trust the club nor can the coaches get the faith from them really..

Thanx Zac for everything and i wish Mancini all the luck although i would have wanted Capello..

We had the option of Capello, and we missed it.
Now we have the option of Hitzfiled, and then we go after Mancini.

I dont have anything against Mancio, but there were better coaches around..!

Hello guys!

Well, I don't know what to say since I'm so damn happy. Finally we can see some light in the end of the tunnel. Of course there's very long way to reach the end of the tunnel but now we can realistically hope something for future.

Zac has gone. I have to say that I don't feel sorry for him. I thought in September that Zac is a wrong man to coach Inter and quite honestly I can say that my opinion regarding Zac never changed. Zac didn't work under easy circumstances but anyway sacking him was the only right decision (everybody who saw Zac's Inter knows why). I don't blame only and just Zac about great failure of last season but like I said earlier he's wrong man. Arrivederci Zac!

Not more about Zac since he's gladly history. Obviously a new coach of Inter will be very very likely Roberto Mancini. Well, I think he's overrated as a coach (and I'm completely honest when I say that I considered him overrated already a year ago). Media has hyped Mancio up way too much (and majority of people copy their thoughts from media) because of entertaining way to play and quite good success with Lazio that has struggled big time with finances. Mancini did good job with Lazio and I don't think he failed with Fiorentina (although they got relegated) but he doesn't deserve all praising that he got.

But don't get me wrong. Although I consider Mancini overrated coach it hell no means he's a bad coach. For example Fabio Capello would have been better choice in my opinion but realistically Inter would have never been able to sign him since also Juventus were interested (there are no way in hell Capello himself would have selected Inter over Juve). So, I'm extremely happy that we got Roberto Mancini. He's still inexpirienced and immatured as coach but when it comes to modern football he has shown he has potential.

I wish that signing Mancio as coach was a start of four (or at least three) year project. Mancini himself needs to learn a lot and so need players. It will take time and I hope in God's name Mancini is given time. He will have a great squad that doesn't need more new players in my opinion but if he still asks couple of players give him them (unless he asks someting completely senseless like Sinisa Mijhailovic).

An aim of the project is of course Scudetto. If Mancini and players are given enough time and peace to work I'm confident they can bring Scudetto. But honestly, I don't expect Inter to win Scudetto next season. And I don't think anybody should expect success that quickly. Let's wait and see, that's all we can do. Naturally the club and supporters are impatient after 15 damn years without Italian glory. But is year or two more waiting (it's time Mancini probably needs to build this side serious Scudetto challenger) anything after 15 years?

It's great that Inter got a rid of Zac but there's also one sad thing. It's proved that Massimo Moratti leads this club. Obviously he walked over a president Giacinto Facchetti (who surprisingly seem to have some character to resist Moratti) in this case. Unfortunately there's existing a big danger that Moratti will ruin everything with his enormous impatience if he doesn't stay away.

There are my few cents. Now we can only hope and support. Let's not forget supporting Inter in bad momets either. There surely will be many bad moments on a long way to Scudetto. And Scudetto will never come if the squad doesn't get support in bad moments.

Forza Inter per sempre!

Ciao,
Antti

Good news. :) But now I hope that we don't start signing Lazio players, who will replace players like Emre, Coco, Andy, Kily..

I bet Capello would have been a flop with us ,although I bet he will be a bigger one with Juve :dielaugh: .

I agree 100% Ziyad. How can you tell a guy,"we support you 100%" just to end up backstabbing him and forcing him to resign b4 he would probably get fired? Thats just wrong. We should have given him a full season atleast to show what he is really worth because when he has a full season he does do better. Also don't forget that Zac shaped the side in the end of the season into one that got the most points out of the whole Serie A in the last 7 games so that we could get into the CL. I sorta feel bad that this is how the Zac-Inter crossroads end and I hope him all the luck in the world.
