People are being naive. Do you really think 10 years down the line when, for some reason, Santon isn't our no.1 fullback and he gets a good offer from Milan he won't go? I assure you he will. Anything can happen in soccer these days.

I'd rather have someone like Balotelli who says it like it is and will make you prepared for when he leaves. I know we are not used to it, but sometimes having arrogant winning personalities in your team is good (Ibra etc.)

We already do.

Jose :D

I think his arrogant personality is big enough to fill the arrogant level to the top ;)

I've moved the Balotelli discussion to his thread. :)

Can anyone shed some light as to why he was not even in the squad to face Genoa? I naturally assumed that with Chivu inured, Santon would get a run as a starter and would be in the first team for an extended period which would allow him to prove himself. I find it both frustrating and worrying that he is not playing and that Mourinho prefers to play Zanetti out of position as opposed to Santon at left back.

Santon has had a muscular injury which has kept him out for two weeks. He only started training with the team again on saturday, mou probably felt that one training session wasn't enough after being out for two weeks to include him for the genoa game. When he has been fit since chivu got injured he has started but he has had injuries which has kept him out. He should be back for catania and chelsea.

He's been playing as a left back for two years now and his left-foot accuracy didn't improve. He needs to practice A LOT on his left foot or we should get a decent lb who can cross. Since we sold our last left-footed left back Maxwell, there's been almost no crosses from our left backs.

Two years? He broke into the first team only last year.

And I don't see why we would need left-footed crosses too much. Even our right-footed crosses are almost always with no use. With our strikers, it's better to play the ball on the ground.

crosses don't have to be high, can be a low quick cross, or a cutback cross resulting in a rebound situation (like when he ran past Cassani on the byline).

It would also be helpful if he could run on the outside, and subsequently use his left foot, rather than run in the inside and into the opposition midfield and then be forced to pass back to Cambiasso.

he is not forced to pass back like he does...
he does so because his technique is limited and not fully developed...

for example, robben (and messi as well) plays exclusively on the right
robben 90% of the time will cut in and the defenders know it, but he is still effective..
it is because he is technically sound and is confident in his dribbling..
so is maicon, who can dribble past players both on the outside AND on the inside..
again, technically sound player

I apologize for the two years mistake. My bad.

Anyway, every team needs as many possible threats as it can have. If Santon actually develops his left-foot he will be able to confidently stop players who are running towards his left-foot, plus he'll be able to cross instead of being useless when he attacks. He's good technically but he doesn't have the technique Messi or Robben has to play on the opposite side.

I still think we need a LB if his left-foot doesn't develop at all.

It's not really that difficult. Half an hour every day for training his left foot should be enough to at least make it decent.

If its serious its better to get it done now and have him 100% for next season. We can cope with chivu and jz. Probably means his wc dream is down the drain thought.

Good luck Davide.
