I disagree with that, I honestly believe that nurturing him to play in LB is exactly what Mourinho should be doing right now. Currently Santon is in the learning process and his ability to dribble past players and his speed are characteristics that are perfect for a full back. If you put him in CB then his speed and dribbling ability will not be used to it's full potential you'll basically rely more on his height and athleticism more than anything else.

Yes he could be the kind of CB that pushes up (Mourinho's libero) however he's just too good at dribbling past players that you need to make use of such a skill.

I say keep him as is and build up on his confidence and he'll be one of the most dangerous fullbacks in the future. All he needs is to sharpen his passing skills a bit, build up the confidence to take shots with his right once he cuts in, and use his left foot for crossing. These 3 skills are all skills that he'll be able to learn within the next 3 years and if he has such an ability he'll be one of the most unpredictable full backs in the world.

Maybe I'm wrong but Santon's form is very good so far, and I'm sure that he'll do even better job by the next matches.. It would be more than fantastic seeing him in World Cup, and I won't be surprised for that if Santon keeps up his form.. once again, since he is back from injury he is doing great job, and he has the chance to prove us and Lippi (I think).

same here Suneet..to me Santon is more of a CB than a LB from what i have seen.. his positioning for a LB leaves alot to be desired..

Abbate and Beckham whacked 20 crosses from his side in the derby, i hope we dont see the same against Chelsea..against Cagliari the cardinal pass that led to the dissalowed goal..that is all because of ill positioning

one cross with his left foot in a season and a half of football is really poor in my opinion for a left back aswell... but atleast he did it and i cant say he cant cross with his left foot...

i hope Santon proves me wrong but to me he aint a LB

i thought he was an offensive RB or RM? he has balls and gets in tough duels hence the CB characteristics,the way he plays @ LB is like a 3rd CB to me.

no assists in his career so far i believe,very offensive

look at Evra,Kolarov,Cole etc...they take everything on and set up goals..Santon doesnt

but i believe that he could do that on the right flank if given time and opportunity

Yeah, if played on the right, he would have assists..

The lack of assists and shots on goal are due one thing, he is right footed player playing on the left. He will run forward, and instead of cross the ball, he turns it to his right, and wil lose the position to cross... and than he uses simple passing to turn the balll to the middle.. If played on right, he would definitelly make some assits and score some goals

His assists will come. He has hardly started this season. The priority is to get the defensive game in order. When he gets settled and more confident, we will see more of him getting forward and assisting.
