they dont seem to happy to see him go. this vendetta against santon on this forum is starting to become ridiculous tbh. give the kid a chance and then judge him. i for one am not afraid to admit that i havent seen him play in ages but back when he was with us he showed alot of potential.

he is still only 24 years old after all. he should be well rounded and simply better compared to the fodder that we currently have.

Read the later pages not just the first one and see how there are also many users who don't like him.

You should read those guys thread. Many guys here said fuck Mbaye and criticized Icardi after every single game, and some called Taider is headless chicken while rated Obi as a better player with superior speed and technique

No, my point is that Newcastle are fucking desperate for a good defense, and for defenders - I've been browsing their forums quite a lot the last day or two - and if you aren't even good enough to play for the 4th worst defense, what does that say about the player?

It doesn't say shit to be honest. I find it hard to believe that after two seasons as a regular starter, they all of the sudden came to the conclusion that he sucks. His fitness issues could be a valid reason, but in that case we won't see much of him and won't be obligated to buy him end of the season. Also I just browsed their forum and non of their fans understands this deal. He was pretty mediocre, but a versatile and useful player to them. And that's also what I expect him to be for us.

But it's seemingly because they have a lack of defenders rather than Santon being quality, and plus, there are people who didn't really care about his sale due to his "quality".

I don't think Santon has shown anything to suggest he's any better than Haidara or Dummett. He's not improved at all since singing whereas both Haidara and Dummett have shown signs of promise in the team. Next tweet kinda says a lot.

I do a remember Santon getting a lot of stick prior to his injury lay off for being defensively inept. In fact, a lot of people on here were saying he'd be more suited to playing as a winger than a full back...!

THIS. Haïdara is the better player. Santon was the worst defensively of our three left backs and he hasn't progressed in the slightest since we signed him. I'm glad he's going to be honest because I never rated him and Haïdara will finally get a proper run of games. I can see him turning into a great player for us.

Didn't forget him at all. Was a huge fan of him especially during our unsuccessful champions league legs against united. I just forgot where his primary position was and if he had permanently been either left or right at newcastle, in which case that would hinder him playing on the opposite side.

True, but there's a difference between cheering and not really caring if a player leaves. I already said he is mediocre. My point is that some people here are being a bit too dramatic about this guy. The construction of the deal is fine, so just give the guy a chance.
