There’s an argument for who the better player in their prime is sure. As a finisher….lol come on.
Dzeko Career: 862 matches 387 goals . Lukaku career: 703 matches 359 goals

First of all, I don't want to discredit Džeko or Lukaku, both are good and capable in their own ways...

But it seems like we aren't talking about the same thing. To me, a better finisher is the one that has the better technique (for striking the ball and for setting the shot). Number of goals scored don't matter as much in this debate, because it's not like every player had the same opportunities.

So let's go through a short list.

Vieri. Milito. Icardi. Džeko.

These players are/were in terms of finishing chances on a higher level than Lukaku.

Now Lukaku can do some other things that most of these couldn't do or did in a smaller volume (like having a powerful shot and scoring with it often enough), but you cannot convince me that Lukaku has the grace of Džeko when scoring in the box.

It’s not necessarily technique no. Finishing is just about how accurate you are at shooting inside the box and composure plays a big part in that.

The 3 players you mention there I agree with but you can’t put Dzeko in that same conversation. At Roma he was known for being incredibly wasteful in front of goal.

I guess we'll just have to disagree. If Lukaku wasn't as messy with some of his shots, he would be unstoppable.

His numbers are good, don't get me wrong. But mentally he just isn't all there to be on the next level. I just don't see him doing stuff like Džeko scoring that goal against Milan.

Well, he has some grace.

Unless yoy belong to the school of thought which assumes that you either have grace or you don't.

Well I did preface that I don't want to discredit Lukaku or Džeko. Just because somebody is better at some facets of the game, doesn't mean the other can't do a similar thing now or then.

Also, Džeko is a lot older and they were never the same type of striker, so naturally their game is different.

Tl;dr at some points Lukaku showed grace and composure, but with him it's usually more brute force than grace and perfect execution.

Watch Dzeko in Wolfsburg when they won Bundesliga. Unbelievable player.

The grace...

Both players have epic fails, both have a bad touch. But Lukaku has a better hold up play, better pace, physique and above all he is immense at penalty taking. Plus younger, the choice is obvious.

Correa injured again! Grande. Get Correa on a loan asap. Dzeko's problem is his asking price is too much. 5 million total that includes all the bonuses may work. Still need 2 or 3 forwards next year though since Correa and Lukaku are useless and too expensive respectively. Dzeko will have to lower his salary if he wants to stay IMO. If Dzeko scores 8 goals in the next three matches I'd be willing to reconsider.

I've always loved Dzeko as a player and wish we got him when he was younger. I don't think anyone can argue that in current form, Lukaku is much better than Dzeko and also has better chemistry with Lautaro, although chemistry between Lautaro + Dzeko has improved a bit in the last month imo.

No doubt that Lukaku has been better than Dzeko lately, but at the same time I wouldn't complain if Dzeko gets to start the final. He needs to quit complicating things because it's obvious that his legs aren't keeping up with his brain anymore. But under a strict gameplay he could still be deadly. I mean he's superior to Lukaku when it comes to aerial duels and his ability to play first touch and make combinations with Lautaro or midfielers it's insane.

We played some quick and beautiful football with him up front. Besides, he tends to win fouls up front and drag the team forward. We cannot afford to lose duels that easy in the final. We need to make their lives harder in their defence and fight for that second ball which Lukaku is struggling to perform.

It’s probably best practice for us to let him walk but I’m also worried about who we bring in to replace him. Hopefully Lautaro commits to the project; that puts us with 1 decent striker going into next season— correa needs to fuck off and the Lukaku situation is complex. We may have to add 3 strikers at this rate, in addition to needing to address the defense and any players we may sell.

Well, as a Bosnian you can consider me a Dzeko fanboy. I have been following his career since Wolfsburg days. I dont post a lot, but my last post was more of a joke, as the comment from Vedo was a typical bosnjo comment. And I mean that in a good way :)

Anyway, best of luck to Inter and Dzeko in the finals. I hope he scores against them just because they wanted to replace him with Negredo and jebeni Bony.
