Very impressed and grateful to empoli for how they're playing us tonight. Very high press on defense and looking to make quick offensive transitions when they recover the ball from us.
This will help the team a lot, especially the forward players in terms of movements to relieve pressure. It shows through the first half we still have a lot of work to do and I'm sure that within a few months, we'll start to see some dutch principles of patterned play to play out of pressure shine through. Hopefully we'll also see aggressive overlapping to create 2v1s in wide areas. Good few times they were prime opportunities to do so but we didn't and instead chose to stay square or behind and "watch" the player do a 1v1...kinda annoying to me but ce la vie..
Perfect game to illustrate just how poor Medel is DEFENSIVELY. He has no business being a single central DM. He just doesn't have the positional discipline, nor tactical intelligence to play that role. He's always not in the right position to break up attacks; always too high, or too wide, or too late recovering. Awful, awful CDM...
