we cant compare this shit to the nba. there's pretty much only those 30 teams in usa. In football there's 100+ more teams. Oh and no Bayern and PSG. Imagine NBA without the Nets and Lakers this year. Fuck with this american system. Why dont these clubs just go and play in the MLS.

Even better, the club owners just fuck off, create new clubs, play in a little league of their own and then we'll see who cares about this shit. Their entire business outlook relies on the market value of the names of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Inter, Milan, Juventus etc.

Who would care about some London Towers or Piedmont Crooks team...?

Ståle Solbakken (Norway Manager):
"In recent years [Juventus] have been knocked out by Lyon, Porto and Ajax in the Champions League. Why the f*ck should they be in such a tournament then? Tottenham and Arsenal are currently, probably not, among the 20-30 best teams in Europe"

Its always nice seeing someone shitting on Juve.

UEFA is executing a new format for CL. They are increasing the number of teams from 32 to 36, playing in a mini-league format with 8 tops proceeding to the knockout round, the next 16 teams play playoffs for the rest 8 places for ko.

Purpose? Ofc to pour more money into their (UEFA) pockets. They nearly double the amount of matches (from 125 to 225). Big clubs will play more AND earn less, as the prize money will be shared for 36 teams instead of 32.

That is the main reason behind big clubs decision to push for their own league. Basically showing middle fingers to the greediness of UEFA.

You've got that backwards. The mooted expansion and Swiss format was what the SL teams were pushing for. It's closer to the format they wanted – more European games, greater likelihood of games between big teams, greater safety net (with more group stage games). If you remember, Agnelli was one of the biggest proponents of this.

what most of you did not bother to read is that the founding teams, would be shareholders of the league itself, so we would get an equal distribution of tv rights.

Right now, big teams generate billions of $$ for UEFA and UEFA gives only a fraction of that back, on top of which they fine us for breaching "FFP".

Also, Inter while not on brink bankruptcy, will not be long term competitive if things continue like this.

In NHL there was first the original 6 teams and now there are 31. Not saying this is the same.

But these leagues that we now think about as tradition where founded some day. Also I think that new leagues and associasions will be founded in future.

Not saying that I like this but the change is inevitable and people always wants to keep hold on the past. Uefa have had many competitions that are not anymore today. What is new now is that big clubs are multimillion corporatios who have much bigger power and media attention than they used to have. At the same time Uefa have less and less power. Also Uefa have made themselves look like corrupt thiefs.

What is concerning about this is that Inter the club I follow is in the same boat with this Agnelli dude that I don't consider very highly.

I definitely don't think this ESL thing will ever materialise. Like someone here said, it's just a tactic to pressure uefa to reformat the ucl in order to suit the needs of these founding members, gain more and participate more since these clubs feel like they deserve more than what they are currently obtaining from uefa competitions because truly, the viewership, money, intensity of games and sponsorship of the uefa competitions largely come as a result of their status, history and fanbase, and I understand where they are coming from, it's just like " I work more than you but we share equal income" scenario, and tbh this hurts a fucking lot. But nevertheless, ESL will hardly happen, even the founders themselves know this deep down in the their minds, but they are using it as a tool to meet their minimum demand. I think this situation can be compared to that of a seller of a bargainable commodity. The seller puts up a high price he knows he will never achieve, and not because of that, but in order not for the buyer to bring down the price below a certain minimum that is meant to maintain the profit margin.

there you go. it's dead in the water. The thing is UEFA can even use this to their own favour - fuck the historic places, and fuck the cncessions they were gonna make - they're gonna make MORE shared payments not less.

within europe there's no restrictions and they already have pretty harsh restrictions on international, so i dont think that will matter much.

Caferin seems like super pissed. Didn't he saw this coming?

Now when I have though about this little bit more I don't think Uefa have too much leverage on this situation. The big clubs seem to have enough of backed schedule, financial fair play, international games where their players come back injured, CL with more smaller teams and less money for big.

I think it is either big blackmail about changing CL more favoured to big teams but they can actually can be dead serious and want to get rid of Uefa and make an NBA kind of football league in Europe. This is a huge change if it happens.

They seem to have quite a lot of leverage seeing as they have FIFA, the national FAs, league associations and (from what I'm hearing) even some governments on their side. But most importantly the supporters are vehemently against this abomination.

Everywhere I look it's like 99% against the Money League™ project. This place is by far the most positive I've seen. Most fans would probably say that they'd choose their domestic competition over European competition.

The club management is an absolute embarrassment for associating with snakes and risking the club's history and heritage getting flushed down the toilet. If this was a desired path that the clubs wanted to take it should have been done with full transparency and they should have asked the supporters for their opinion.

This is easily the most embarrassing event in Inter's history.

Don't have one.

Just watched pundits on sky sport talk about this, and one of them said he was in contact with some reputable lawyer who went through all the laws regarding this and said only way this league gets banned if they introduced new laws cus with the old ones uefa and everyone is on the losing end.

I mean you just have to look at what man city lawyers did to ffp and uefa, and now think what can 12 of the richest clubs in europe do with joint forces.

meh, i dunno. You've got to get licenses, things like that. It's well out of my domain of knowledge of 'sporting law', but for example, there are probably FIFA restrictions they can bring in place that prevent them from doinga nything. Bear in mind, for example, all transfers are done via a FIFA system as it already stands. Any arbitration could take years of appeals to go through, as well.

At the endo f the day, that Premiership rule is clear cut - you cannot join another competition without approval from the Premiership. So all those clubs will now have to make a decision, it's either or.

Of course there's nothing to prevent any club from saying "We no longer do competitive football, the only thing we will do is participate in a series of friendlies with other clubs that don't do competitive football"

But even then, you probably have some minimum obligations to be FIFA licensed, for example.

I'm out of my depth on this one, FFP and balance sheets are much easier than laws, I'm just guessing for what its worth.
