I'm not sure benching Dimarco (in a long shot) would have been a good idea . Carlos Augusto is a very good player but not on Dimarco's level yet. If you compare them, they are different players but Dimarco's influence in our game is crazy, and his technical ability gives him an edge over Augusto because we are known as a competitive team that plays creative football and doesn't rely on physical game.
Like I said, this season he's been kind of shaky compared to last one, but I'd put some blame in our midfield for that (excluding Hakan). There's plenty of times that I have seen both Dimarco and Dumfries being isolated because they didn't get support from either Mkhi or Barella. They were kind of forced to make a panic pass forward to Lautaro or Thuram whom are mostly marked by opponent defenders, so my point is that lack of support from both Mkhi and Barella has been obvious which made even our attackers to struggle like hell.
Dimarco being poor defender is no surprising anymore. It's a well known fact, but he's got amazing stamina and tenacity to make it up. He's also improving tactically. He was far more vulnerable in the earlier days. It's a fact that he's gotten better by the time, but like I said in my other post, this season he's been kind of shaky in term of consistency which it's not entirely his fault because our setup of 352 is very complex and wingbacks are almost crucial positions in this scheme.
Then again, I'm totally okay with giving Carlos Augusto some chances as starter because he's shown that he's a quality player, but at the same time I'm pretty sure that we will be missing Dimarco's creativity from that left flank.
