I suppose from a logistic and financial perspective, Pinamonti is the option which presents us with the least obstacles.
I've never entertained the idea of seeing him back at Inter, but we may have to considering there's just 3 hours remaining and all other options seem increasingly unlikely. And if the choice is between signing Pinamonti and signing no one, I say bring him back ASAP. I'm sure Conte agrees.
For what it's worth, he's displayed an ability to score a variety of goals - long range, tap-ins, and some really nice finishes with both feet. Despite being 1.85cm tall though, he's scored zero headers it must be said. That brings me nicely to my concerns, which I've posted about before.
Conte clearly wants a vice-Lukaku, not another Sanchez/Mertens. Someone physical, who can perform as a target man of sorts - come out to meet the ball, win aerial duels/long balls, play with his back to goal, hold up possession etc. I feel like sadly, these are the exact things that Pinamonti lacks. I've always felt his biggest weakness is that he tends to disappear during games. 80% of the time, you wouldn't even know he's on the pitch.
Admittedly, the atrocious state of Genoa, the way they play and their coaching, is definitely a contributing factor. But Pinamonti is yet to showcase any ability to reliably impact a game with these basic functions. These things often require a degree of experience too - experience that Pinamonti obviously lacks. Older players like Dzeko and Giroud are still considered essential pieces to their respective teams for this reason (national team in the case of Giroud).
Pinamonti appears much more poacher-like. Goals are a bonus, but it's the other target man tasks/functions I mentioned above that Conte wants from his Lukaku sub. Making space, linking up, and acting as an attacking cornerstone is more important. Pinamonti seems to lack the temerity to play in the combative, physical and dynamic manner that Conte no doubt desires. He only scores when defenders forget about him and he can sneak into a yard of space.
All that said, I'm skeptical, but willing to take a chance - especially if the alternatives are no one, or fucking Zaza. There's no question our staff would do a better job of coaching him than the goon squad at Genoa at least.
I can't wait for another Dortmund-esque rage from Conte when we fail to sign a vice-Lukaku.
