Akanji needs playing time for the upcoming world cup. He isn't in a position to play hardball. He will either get sold now or accept a renewal with Dortmund even if it is for just one more season. Dortmund have already signed his replacement so they will only reinstate him to the team in their own terms.

La Repubblica writes about a loan deal with a fee of around €500,000, whilst the deal would also include an option to make the signing permanent at the end of the loan.

Gianluca Di Marzio: the Nerazzurri are ready to sign Acerbi on loan but are still waiting to see whether they can bring in Chalobah.

CdS: Chelsea would be reluctant to send defender Trevoh Chalobah to Inter on loan until they get the signing of another defender wrapped up to replace him.

So I expect this will drag on until the end of the mercato.

  • We sign Acerbi
  • this allows Lazio to sign Akanji who rediscovers his form in Rome and become one of the strongest defenders in the league
  • Chalobah still needs a loan move and takes Akanji's spot in Dortmund, knowing that it's an excellent place for youngsters to develop. He becomes the new De Ligt, securing a big money move to a top club after several excellent seasons
  • meanwhile, after 2 dismal years riddled with errors and injuries, we pay a 36 year old Acerbi a golden handshake of €5m to leave by mutual termination

at inter neither Chalobah or Akanji will start.

We aren't benching Bastoni or Skriniar and to me De Vrij has been our best defender the last 2 games.....

So unless we sell Skriniar its going to be someone who doesn't care about being a backup

With Inzaghi as a coach most probably. But with the current state of De Vrij, I wouldn't be surprised if some other coach puts Skriniar in the middle, and Akanji on the right, for example.

What's the current state of De Vrij exactly? IMO the current state of De Vrij is what he has shown in the past two matches and he's been rock solid in those matches.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves with De Vrij. So far we have faced a side that got promoted this season and a side that finished 16th last season. If he's also solid against Lazio then we can start saying he has turned the page.

Honestly, how funny that sounds? 2 matches at the start of the season shouldn't mean much, but then add one match on top of that, then it's decided.

It's completely reasonable. Napoli is the perfect example - their first two wins of the season have been against relegation fodder, so we're tampering expectations. If they had beaten Juventus and Milan we'd be taking them seriously.

It's not like one game against Lazio determines if De Vrij is a good CB or not (while two games against lesser opponents won't do that either).

What's funny about it? Lazio is the first serious opponent we face. If De Vrij has a good match then it could be a good sign. It doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna have a good season but it's certainly a better test than Lecce and Spezia

In order to help facilitate a move, Acerbi is willing to give up on around €400,000 in owed wages from Lazio, his pay for July and August.

Inter made it clear that they weren’t willing to pay the €500,000 for the loan, so the decision was necessary to help push forward a deal.

The Curva Nord have released an official statement confirming that they will not oppose Inter signing Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi on loan
Released on the Nord’s official site, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri ultras group made clear that despite many fans of the club having made their feelings clear that Acerbi is not a player they want to see signed, the Nord’s stance is that they will let the club do the business they see as right.

Acerbi is reportedly one of the main names on Inter’s list of possible defensive reinforcements as they seek to bring in one final signing to bolster the depth of the backline before the summer transfer window closes.

The 34-year-old has been the source of some controversy, however, particularly related to his past with AC Milan and the fact that he appeared to be smiling after the Rossoneri scored a late winner against Lazio which proved to be a key moment in the title race.

For their part, however, the Nord will not take any action to oppose Acerbi’s signing, as they write that “We clarify that the Curva Nord, unlike what some have claimed recently, is not putting any pressure on Inter on how to finish the transfer window.”

“We trust our managers,” the statement continues, “they know what they have to do and how to do their job. When we have had something to say we’ve always done so through our usual channels.”
Planets starting to align...
