Okay, first post here in a decade or so, but since my friend forced me to watch West Ham games last season, here I am.
The injuries are an obvious concern, but since I am not a doctor and also do not have an access to inspect his knee, I will leave this to medical experts.
I wholeheartedly disagree with people who cannot see anything in him. He has outstanding basics to build on. Super tall, surprisingly technical and a great shot and a good header. He is probably faster than people give him credit for. He is also not a one season wonder. What he did with Sassuolo was simply a continuum of his Genoa season. There was no sudden leap in quality - or even in stats. Just normal progress. At Genoa he had 8 goals in 13 starts and also three man of the match performances.
His time in England could be seen as a blessing in disguise. Transition to Premier League is always difficult and injuries made it almost impossible. Poor stats hide the fact that he is the same player as he was year ago, just two times cheaper. We are piss poor and really need openings like this. Balogun would be the exact opposite signing when it comes to timing, his price is bloated because of a successful season.
Scamacca is 24, but in my opinion still quite raw as a player. He is big so everyone automatically assumes he is a target man. But his hold-up play and link-up play is very limited. Many big guys learn this trade gradually so the potential is there. Name a big striker and he probably got a lot stronger in these aspects of the game as he grew older. Scamacca is an outstanding individual, he just has to use his assets for the benefit of the team by playing one-twos, flicks, holding up the ball and winning duels. And he will, unfortunately it will not happen overnight. Some might say that we are not a school for raw 24 year old players, but looking at our finances, we kind of have to be.
I went to whoscored and wasn't surprised to learn that he has zero assists the last two seasons and two in his whole career - in 99 games. That's something!
All in all, I think guys like him are a rare breed and at 25 million we should take the gamble. Right now he would probably be the 3rd striker, but he certainly has the potential to be a starter for Inter in coming years. He is exactly the type of player that keeps on improving his overall game year after year.
